Found some tile, looks pretty good to me but wanted to run it by you guys to see if I am not missing anything:

Porcelain
Rectified
Water Absorption less then .5
Break Strength is 325
Scratch resistance is 8
COF is greater then .6 WET
COF is greater then .7 DRY

$1.50 SF

Seems to me it should work out great for a garage floor. I'm not sure on the scratch resistance spec. Couldn't find a PEI rating on it. But it seems ok.

What do you guys think??

seems odd that they don't list the PEI but list all that other stuff. I would bet it is okay but I am hesitant because they don't list a PEI rating. Is this from a known manufacturer or imported chinese tile?

PEI rating is the tile's glazing resistance to abrasion. If the tile is un-glazed then it won't have a PEI rating. The break strength of 325 is not too bad. Ceramic is around 250. Porcelain can have up to a 400 break strength.

Edit: Scratch resistance goes from 1 to 10 on Mohs scale.

Not sure on manufacturer. It's being sold locally by a guy that has some left over from a job. I will be checking it out tomorrow.

Actually, PEI Wear ratings can be found specified for any kind of porcelain tile whether the tile is glazed or unglazed.

Correct, PEI rating will be found on glazed and unglazed tiles.

If the tile box is giving all that other info the PEI rating should be there too. If they spent the money to do all those other tests I would think they would have done that one too.

I would bet it is at least a PEI 4 judging by the other specs.

All I can say it there are a lot of misinformed people. There is a lot of flooring information that says the PEI rating was created to rate the wear ability of the porcelain enamel glazing.

Indeed. PEI = Porcelain Enamel Institute. But it wasn't created for glazed tiles, but rather porcelain enamel on metal. http://www.porcelainenamel.com/index.html

Evidently the test methods are rather handy however for testing the wear resistance of other porcelain products.
