Does this look right for # of Lights?

I understand it is subjective but feel the need to ask anyhow. I've looked at different lighting calculators as well. If I am understanding correctly from looking at different lighting calculators for my use, I am shooting for 750 -1000 lux. I would like to "flush" mount.

Lights using: Costco Feit LED 4 foot 4000K @ 4000 lumens. I have the newest linkable versions with the pull chains and the white cords.

Garage: 20' x 24' x 11' = 480 ft2 floor space. Finished off-white painted walls and ceiling. The floor will be painted Rust bullet's dark grey/charcoal color next year with some flake.

Use: General metal and wood hobby space with three benches, No car detailing or storage. Metal lathe, midi wood lathe and drill press all have supplemental desk lamp type of fixture dedicated to them as well.

Walls: About 75% 3D coverage from Bulky light robbing stuff like clamps, hand planes, hanging tools, shelves, fridge, freezer, etc.

The calculator says to use 12 of these lights mentioned above to achieve this. Does that sound right? Seems like an awful lot of lights for this space.

Honestly sounds about right to me given your light requirements.

IDK if it's right or not. Have you messed with the light diagram tool that is linked the the Light Ficture thread stickied at the top? It'll do the math for you on the layout.

At the low end of your stated goal, you'd be about 70 fc. That's more than plenty for a home workshop, especially with the task lighting you mentioned. No need to put lots of light on the tops of cabinets or shelves.

4000 Lm fixture output is too low for 11ft ceiling height. I get 58fc @ 30" work plane using 12 4000Lm strip lights. Consider changing fixture to a 3-lamp 4ft strip light (link) ~8000 lm and you'll get 86fc with 9 fixtures.

These lights were made for task lighting as in an extra light over a workbench or a tool, turned on with a pull chain when you need it. If you insist on using them for general lighting, then YES you will need a lot of them and they will go seriously downhill with lots of hours and when they have been used for a few years will hit the trash.
Fabulous lights for their intended use but when you start filling up your cart with a bunch, you need to think again and ask questions..........
