Does this pipe wrench do anything special?

I'm cleaning out my basement and part of that is getting rid of duplicate tools. It turns out I have three eighteen inch pipe wrenches and two fourteens, which I would like to reduce to two wrenches total.

This one has an offset head. Does it do anything special that a traditionally shaped one does not?

I'm guessing that old pipe wrenches are not terribly valuable (Rigid and Fuller) and I suppose they will end up on Craigslist.

Mark my Words.. Within a Month of Selling, more like giving away on Cl as the market for pipe wrenches just isn't that strong, you will find yourself in a cramped space with pipes in your way and need that offset handle.

I found myself needing an offset pipe wrench once and admit that they are the best when in need. I even bought 1 that was offset by 90 degrees, you don't know what you are missing until you need it.The 90 degree offset is best when pipe is against the wall.

If you were local, I'd trade two of my regular pipe wrenches for that one, I don't have any offset...

So true I would definitely keep the offset one and always good to have duplicates

I prefer those 45 degree offset pipe wrenches. I seem to ba able to get them in way more locations. I'm still Looking to get some of the 90 degree offset ones as well. Always keep my eye open at the pawn markets and flea shops...er...well... You know what I mean.

Get rid of tools? Blasphemy! You've got 2 hands, so you need 2 pipe wrenches in each size.

Further searching turned up a total of three eighteen inch straight wrenches, two fourteens, one straight and the offset, one twelve and one ten in aluminum.

I was thinking about keeping one eighteen, the fourteen offset and the ten aluminum.

I'm only getting rid of these wrenches to make room for more tools. I've got some Grey wrenches and sockets coming but more importantly I'm trying to convert my old tool and storage room in to a fully equipped furniture building shop.

So, would anyone here have a use for 60" pipe wrenches? I'm looking at a 48" and 60" but can't possibly fathom what I need to use them for.

Big stuck bolts, pipes that you don't feel like using a cheater bar on a small pipe wrench, and they make a decent portable vise in a pinch.

I have a 24" one that I found in the trash. Made by Ridge tool co. Elyria ohio USA. I am taking that means it is a rigid brand not sure on that. I have used that thing numerous times and for free Ya Buddy.

I wouldn't get rid of any. I do the bulk of my work for a local brewery, lots of pipes, and let me tell you, you can never have too many pipe wrenches.

I have 2 each of Ridgid aluminum 12", 18" and 24" that I use on a regular basis, plus the 36" iron one that comes out occasionally, in addition to the smattering of wrenches smaller than 12".

The other day, the maintenance guy had him and another guy on his 48" wrench against me and and another guy with a cheater on my 36" trying to get a stuck 2" union apart on a steam line. It still took the oxy-acetylene to get it apart. I wish I had a pair of 60" wrenches for times like that.

I have a couple of small pipe wrenches, 6" and even 4" I probably have a 12" all these are standard Rigid type, the brand I have always preferred. And I have a pair of Rigid aluminum handle pipe wrenches in 15" and 24", I think. This is all I need for any plumbing work I might run into. I'd keep that angle head wrench if it was mine because I don't have one. Do know about sometimes needed such a wrench.

I've seen a pipe wrench head with a square drive hole for a ratchet or breaker bar. Not mine. Only ever seen one.

Always prefer the older tools. With such things as these pipe wrenches or Vise Grips having sharp teeth in the jaws is important so that factor may preclude the selection of an older tool. Surprising tho you can find the oldest tools sometimes in like new condition.

Throw away some furniture instead. Keep the wrenches.

The 36" 48" rigid's are 2 of my favorite fab tools great for bending 1/4 plate with a torch as well as big pipe, large fasteners, persuading things to fit.

Just like big pry bars the snappy 48 crown top is awesome
so are giant bolt cutters each tool has many uses

You need two of each size in my experience, then again I run hundreds of feet of black iron.

My pipe wrenches don't do anything, let alone anything special. They just sit there until I pick them up and then they make me do everything.
