Does this set look like a wire wheel was used on it?

I was curious, this stuff looks really clean, but shows some pitting on the sockets and I was thinking our best friend the wire wheel must have spend some time on them, but I am not sure... Just curious, not my auction.

Cool set, they do look clean, hard to tell. I'd like to see a shot of the top and inside of the sockets and the inside, those are a lot harder to clean and usually a good indicator. Could be a spin on the drill with steel wool, I do that on my older sockets to clean them up. If you're interested in them ask the seller to send some close up pics of the sockets and the inside of the sockets.

I have more then enough plomb 3/4 ratchets and a socket set for about that price and my breaker bar wasn't damaged either. Just curious as it looks wire brushed, but I could be wrong.

But it does look like the sockets have some brush marks all in the same direction.

You really can't tell from the picture. I've wire wheeled some old Mac wrenches and it left no marks at all. I was using a softer fine wheel instead of the usual coarse wheel.

Elroy's humble opinion they have seen the wire wheel AFTER taking a trip cross the belt sander!

Look at the pits still present in the lower right hand socket. The forged in letters "Plomb" look pitted as well.

They look like they have been metal worked to Elroy. Not really that big of deal.

Random coincidence, I just picked up a nearly identical set today. Mine only has the 7" extension, but it has eleven sockets from 1" to 2" and the breaker bar is perfect. I was wondering what they are worth and here's an auction which will give a real-time indication.

BTW, the shine on the sockets looks like they were chucked in a lathe and polished with fine grit belting. The ratchet and extensions look like a trip through the belt sander.

How say ye? Leave the grunge for the collector to clean up? Or, I appreciate the seller doing the hard work, as long as he doesn't polish off the pebble?

It works good if you spray the piece down every so often with WD-40 as you take the wire wheel to it; this will keep the metal particles and **** in suspension until you wipe the piece off; that way you don't get the dreaded smudged wire wheel stains.
