Since when does Whirlpool try and make boxes? Had rolling bearings but steel seemed thin on drawers and that long drawer wouldn't shut on its detent. Just flopped back and forth. No thanks Whirlpool. This was at Sears by the way.

I would assume it matches the Gladiator line of garage cabinets and work benches. Actually pretty good marketing to their intended audience.

Also, since appliances and tool boxes both utilize stamped steel cabinetry, makes sense for them to branch out.

No comment on the quality level form me,,,,,,,,,,,,,OP has seen them in person and I believe he is dead on.

My Dad gets big union discounts on Whirlpool from working at US Steel. My mom bought us a kitchen stove for 1/3 retail. I was going to try them when I got to that point in my garage.

I have also seen these around and am very curious about how they are. I think it's a pretty tough design personally (what man doesn't like a little diamond plate - or at least imitation - in his shop). I do know a guy in our hanger that uses one and I have yet to ask him about it or check it out, but as soon as I do I will report what I can!

I was looking at tool boxes at Sears, I think last year just to see what they had in house locally, and of all the boxes they had on display, the Gladiator 26" was the only one worth a damn IMO/ the rest of the Craftsman/whatever had "slides rated for ***" and the drawer bottoms would oilcan if you dropped your mail in it...

I can't speak for the larger box you posted. The one I saw was a 26" and even that could have been lightened up since...

A shame Sears has gone down this road.

the diamond plate is a gimmick, they are good for organizing your kids sports gear and that's about it.

Not sure on the toolbox as I haven't seen one, but I have a whole wall of Gladiator RTA cabinets hanging over my workbench in my garage and I have been very happy with them so far.

Have you never seen the old fashioned oil cans that you invert and push on the bottom with your thumb to get them to pump?

It's becoming quite apparent that "GE" might be very young . . .
. . . . . possibly in the 10 to 12 yrs old range. :eyecrazy: . . . ;)

I really like my Gladiator cabinets, but for my tool box I think I'd go with something else. If someone is really worried about keeping a theme going I suppose they could get a Gladiator box to match the cabinets...not a concern for me though.

I have the Gladiator Welded Cabinsts out of their Premier line and I am very happy with them. I also have their 2 5 drawer tool boxes and 6' bamboo top workbench. Pretty much have the whole Gladioator System in my garage. For the price, it was the best quality I could swing.

It replaced MDF cabinets I had installed years ago that were taken out by Hurricane Sandy.

Outlaw, my boy, "oilcan" is not a verb...:lol_hitti

However, I have one of those ancient devices, and it does "oilcan" when it's bottom is pushed...:pimpflash

Ergo, Webster was wrong...wrong I tell you...:willy_nil:willy_nil

(Sears was a much better deal when we could walk in, and they had Craftsman 5197/5198's in stock...) Like the one you have stashed under your workbench...
