Does your tool dealer bash the other brands?

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I'm sure this has probably been discussed here before but figured I'd start a new thread. So as the title states, does your tool dealer bash other brands? My Snap On dealer has the standard line "I laugh at XYZ's ratchets", this coming from a guy who was swimming ball to ball when I was buying Matco, MAC, S-K and Snap On. Yet my Matco dealer never bashes other brands and speaks respectfully of other brands and think that is due to him being mechanic for 15 years before selling Matco.

All the guys in my shop are quiet about other brands. Dont hear one way or another. If my Snap-On guy did say something about Matcos ratchets, id get on him about it. Matco ratchets are slimmer and narrower without having to buy something special.

Nope. My snappy guyy was jokin around the other day. I told him I was going to win that 722 and put it on my 6s. He said it ways more and will crush it . We both started laughing and I said you don't really. Belive in all that snap on box **** do ya? And he said no . He is a great guy tho and turned wrenches for a long time before he became a snap on guy.

Not really, between my snap on and mac guy- they can appreciate good tools/values. I often catch the Mac guy admiring my snap on tools/box. He's more of a tool enthusiast than a loyal Mac user, I introduced him to my Wera rapidaptor set a few weeks ago. He fell in love with it and is now going to start selling Wera.
I haven't heard my snap on dealer talk negatively about other brands unless it comes to Matco ratchets. I think he takes them for trades just because he knows he will sell more dual 80s.

Nope none of my dealers talk trash about the others product at all.....that's a lack of class they all make things the others don't and such. Guys in the shop like what they like and that's it. That said I buy more tools from my independent dealer than any of the others

My snap on guy talks **** about all other brands. But my Mac guy will take my matco stuff and give it to another guy to get it replaced and then bring it back to me since we don't have a matco dealer in our area. Needless to say Mac is starting to gain my respect so I hope this guy sticks around.

Cornwell guy just says Snap On is great but a little expensive compared to Cornwell. Snap On guy doesnt even say a word. The Cornwell guy would say this I think because he was new and trying too hard. Now he just sells his tools and their value. If they are a good dealer and business man he would never talk bad about the competition, it just makes them look bad when they do

my snappy guy has been a snappy guy for only about 4 months, and he's trying really hard to develop lifelong customers...and i think i'll be one...the mac guy that runs around here doesn't have a very good selection and a 5 week payment program...our matco guy has some good stuff...but he will show up maybe once a month...he went about 6 weeks w/o showing up one time...

as far as smack talking goes, there ain't much between the three, but i will tell my snappy guy about how ****** my matco guy is haha

I have had both breeds of dealers. I had a Matco guy that was Terrible for trash talking. I love my Cornwell guy he will actually not sell certain tools and recommend a different brand (unless insisted upon). This is very rare but on occasion. The bottom line is certain companies make superior tools. My cornwell guy doesn't like to sell air hammers because the Snap-On is so much better he says. Have any of you guys seen the demo the Matco guy does when they bend a Snap-On 1/2" wrench against a Matco wrench? My Matco guy started talking so much **** when the Snap-on supposedly failed first but I think I might have been the only one to notice the Matco actually started to curl around then bend in half first. The Matco started to curl then the Snap-On broke then the Matco bent in half. The wrenches both failed at some point but the Matco actually failed first, but when the Snap-On failed it broke the box end. This demonstration just made the Snap-Ons look more dramatic. It really turned me off to him because I felt it to be deceitful. I later befriended an old retired Matco guy who agrees with my consensus. I asked the other guys what they thought after the dealer left and many thought the Snap-On was inferior. I had a different view, but it was all it took and this guy was off to the races bashing Snap-On and Mac any chance he got. I believe the big 4 tool trucks make amazing tools and I am happy to use any of them.

My Snap On guy does not talk smack about any other truck brand. Part of the reason is that he takes the other truck brand tools in for trade and smack talking does him no good when he has to sell them.

There are 3 trucks that stop by my work. SO, Mac, and Cornwell. The cornwell dealer is the only one to bash any other brands and its mostly SO. Mostly about there boxes and carts.

The local Snap-on dealer will never utter a single word about his competition. Never mentions another brand name ever. As far as he's concerned, Snap-on is the only maker of mechanics tools in the world.

My guy is pretty respectful, he says cornwell boxes are pretty nice. He does have some pictures on his truck of other ratchets showing them with other brands guts in them. He has told Mac tools aren't as great as they use to be.

Idk why but this bothers me a lot. I do not like buying something to find out I overpaid if I bought the same item from a different brand. This bothers me because I like Matco torque wrenches a lot more than the other manufacturers, but they are sold under Armstrong, Gearwrench and how many other lower brands.

Caveat emptor.

Do your research before spending the money.

Past any superior quality claims, the price you pay for the truck brand is supposedly getting you better and more timely service/support than buying more inexpensive brands.

If that isn't worth it to you, then buy the more inexpensive brand.

for the most part, over the past (nearly) 30 years of dealing with the big 3 tool brands, most of the dealers were respectful, and didnt bash the competition.
we had one new dealer that started up 3 or 4 years ago, he started bashing anything and everything the competition had.

by the 3rd week, i escorted him to the door, and told him not to come back, his new business venture lasted less than a year

Back in my dealership days.....we had Mac, Snap-On ,Cornwell and Matco guys that came by....each had their own day. The new Matco guy came in on the Mac mans day and start raising hell with the Mac guy......the Mac guy was real nice and said there's room for both of us....I'll hit the body shop first and then well swap..no big deal. The **** hit the fan when the Matco guy shoved the Mac man....the end result was the Mac man laid out the Matco guy right in the shop. Matco guy was escorted off the premises by the service manager and told never to come back. The Mac man tried to avert the confrontation but wasn't about to be shoved around either. The other tool guys heard about this were pissed that the Matco guy was such an *******.The Matco guy was gone in about a month. The other tool guys were friends and often had lunch together.

We don't have a Matco guy. The Mac guy is a drunk who forgets to show up. Cornwell and SO are the only guys we really see and neither have anything negative to say to the other. My SO guy is great, most of my tools are SO because of how good he is.

A true professional is just that- a professional.

This means being respectful of your competition as a valid and worthy competitor. You treat everyone with the same respect as you expect them to give to you. The tools you sell should sell themselves. Give a wrench out and let the customer try it and compare it with their own favorite. They, your customer, are your final judge. It's not the my job as the tool seller to make that decision for the customer. And admit when your own tool doesn't hold up. Take that back to your own people, explain the situation and perhaps they will take that to the engineers whom can work on the issue and make the product that much better.

It's like auto racing. You win races out on the track, not in the garage. Put your best out there and let it stand for itself, good or bad.

I'd much rather respect a seller whom was honest about their product like that and far more likely to do business with them.
