Hello folks,

I'm going to have to do my epoxy floor this weekend by myself and am looking for pointers to make it go 'smoothly'. I've got just over 650 sq/ft to finish.

I recommend reading, reading and more reading on this board. I used the ADVANCED SEARCH/SEARCH ONLY IN TITLE feature to limit the threads to just those products I was interested in.

Once you've narrowed your choices, the manufacturer's Web sites should have detailed instructions.

Of course, all of us find a few tricks to make the process go easier. I shared a few pointers in my Epoxy Floor Project thread.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

I purchased the Epoxy Coat system and I have their instruction DVD and printed instructions. I was just rooting around for some tips for someone doing it solo as it seems that most people do it with a partner who mixes or backrolls for them. I'm doing it on a Friday / Saturday when my help is at work. So any helpful 'when doing this solo' tips you may have I'll send you a virtual beer as a thank-you.

Ahhh, keyword being "by myself." I get it now. I had a helper as I anticipated the product was going to harden in 15 minutes, but with the temp in the low 50s we had way more time than that so I could have done it myself if I had to. Christine and a couple others suggested doing 1 section COMPLETELY at a time before moving on to the second. The DVD and instructions suggest you could roll out the second section then go back to the first for the second roll. So that change in approach is probably all you'll need.

I did the clear coat by myself.

Approximately how long did it take to do a section to completion?

I'd say 15-20 minutes. It was easy to overlap an inch or two. The epoxy blended fine for me but again, I think I had more working time due to the low temp. If you look at the photos of my project you can see I put a pretty heavy flake down so that would have hid most overlap irregularities. But a downside to the heavy flake coverage is the time it takes.

I checked and my slab is in the mid 60's for temps right now so I would imagine I'll get some decent time to work the epoxy without worrying about it curing too fast.

I did the Wolverine epoxy and poly flooring (2 coats epoxy, 1 poly). I have 715 sf, alredy divided into quarters by the stress relief cuts, so I don't know how well the coats would blend, but I don't think it would be a problem. Probably the best advise I can give you is to make sure that you coat it all. There are several places on my floor that I didn't roll out properly, and you can see that clearly.

Once you get done, good or bad, just keep saying to yourself "It's only a garage". That makes those chips and scratches easier to accept.

Next floor I do I'm going to divide my Part A's and B's into separate small containers BEFORE I start. I don't trust the stick in the bucket measuring method.
