Don't buy low-priced urethane hammers from Amazon

I know that many of you scour Amazon for good deals as I do. Well, I found what looked to be a Lixie non-marring hammer on Amazon for a low price, <$5, and ordered one.

I received a replacement hammer face. Both the product title and picture indicate that the item is a complete hammer, and nothing in the description indicates otherwise.

So, be careful.

Yea, they're paying for return shipping (as expected), but it's still a disappointment and a hassle.

I placed 2 orders with 2 items each.

1 item is misadvertised, 1 is broken, 1 has a funky weird coating that doesn't look right, but I'll keep it anyways (a ruler), and 1 is a divider with blunted tips.

I received a Jet air cleaner earlier that I didn't try yet, crossing my fingers.

Amazingly enough, the item listings are generated by humans, and humans make mistakes.

Considering the (literally) millions of items that Amazon sells, it is quite amazing that such problems are quite rare.

I'm not saying boycott Amazon, I'm saying that if you come across this "deal", beware.

I saw that another "urethane hammer" product had a review that mirrored my experience.

This is not a simple human error, it's negligence. I've seen things like this before, but they're usually fixed in time. I recall that when Beta tools were first added to the product catalog, many of the empty tool trays were not described as being empty.

Thankfully this is indeed a rare occurence.

I've seen numerous Small Parts/Amazon cross-listing errors before, and this issue fits the pattern.

usually when i buy things from amazon, i usually google the product ID or number to make sure it is what they say it is. Only takes a minute or two.

I've had a similar problem with Amazon on a few items. They always take care of the me directly via a free return, but as Stuey said, is is an inconvenience. I can easily look past a few mistakes and I will continue to order a ton of stuff from Amazon, but it is annoying that they do not update the website descriptions when these things happen. I have seen on a few items where they stop selling because people report problems, but it must take a lot of complaints, because I have told them of a few issues and they did nothing. There is also nowhere to report anything unless it is a picture description issue. Fortunately, this is one of the few faults I have ever experienced with Amazon.

I usually look up model numbers as well, but this time they don't even mention the brand or model number.

These days I order from Amazon several times a week, sometimes several times a day even, and that won't be changing any time soon.
