Don't repeat my silly mistake when laying Racedeck-type flooring tiles

I made a silly mistake this weekend when I lay down my Moto floor (Costco brand) tiles.

Following the supplied instructions, I started the first tile on the back wall of the garage, left side and laid the tiles left to right towards the garage door. The instructions showed (and explained) the female loops must lie in the direction of the progress. It was only when I got partially through the job that I discovered it will be impossible for me to attach the edging strips to the exposed edge of the tiling at the garage door. The edging strips also are female loops!

The mistake I made was starting the floor at the back wall. I should have started at the door, right side and laid the tiles towards the back wall. That would have provided an row of male pins at the door for the edging strips to lock upon.

So, now I have to find a solution to attaching the edging strips to my floor. I'm sure I'll come up with some solution; I have a couple in mind already.

Go back to Costco and tell them that the instructions have a mistake in them. Chances are that they will tell you to pull up the tiles, return them, and give you new ones. Costco has a lot of clout with the manufacturers.

Do they not offer edge pieces with male instead of female loops instead? Typically they offer both types in the case you are putting edge around the entire floor area. Otherwise you'll need to pull the floor apart and flip it around.

You can buy female and male edging at bigfloors.com I think the locking system between Motofloor and Racedeck is the same...Im not 100% sure, but you can call them up and see if the edging if compatible.

Or are these different from Racedeck...I received my RD samples this week and watched the installation video, very easy to take them back apart and redo.

We have used the same flooring for trade shows - put it down at the beginning of the show and take it up at the end. It isn't fun, but you just pull it apart and you can put back down.

I understand your frustration. We do offer the edging in male (edging without loops) and female (edging with loops). You can order what you need by calling 800-457-0174. It is not necessary to pull up the entire floor and start again.

The part you're missing is the edge cuts. Some cuts are specific to protrusions into the floor (door porch, support columns, pipes) and other cuts were necessary to finish to the wall. When the floor gets flipped, these cuts will have to be redone. It's time, but also an additional material cost since I'd have to get new tiles. It probably represents 15% wastage.

Thanks for this information, Joergen. I placed an order for the male pin edging today from Snaplock. I'll return the original edging kit to Costco. Problem solved.

I can only speak about Costco Canada. They offer one edging kit and it includes 24 tiles and 12 female-loop edges. There are no other kits or options available. Sna[lock distributors will have access to a greater range of products, offering greater compatibility.

Just bear in mind when buying Costco, the product selection is limited.
