Since a couple of you guys see it, it must be true that it's from Germany. I'm getting old...help me out...where does it say that? I see Cyrillic writing all over the box...for that reason alone I know it is "from" Russia in the sense of being sold there. It's also being listed from a city in Russia. I never see tools from Russia on "regular" eBay and I like to see what people use to wrench with in foreign regions.

But anyway, where is the "Germany" deal?:headscrat

EDIT: I just went back and squinted some more and see "Germany" written under the "Matrix" brand name.

Even more interesting. Here is what I mean:

Cyrillic writing on box.

"Germany" is written in English...neither the Germans nor the Russians call that country "Germany."

Tools might be Asian (I know nothing about the "Matrix" brand.

It's a whole international melting pot right there.

Martix sounds chinese

we have a brand here called matrix that is chinese but they do not resemble that set at all

It is international law that the country of origin, in this case Germany, be listed in english on the product. It might say something else on the packaging, but on the product it will always be listed in english. That is why you have Taiwan or China on all your other tools...
And I might be wrong, but the look like Snap On knockoffs. Why engineer it yourself, when you can just copy someone?

The ratchet looks identical to the ones that come in the Crescent multipiece tool sets. I'm convinced it's the same thing and that would mean Taiwan.

Ok, a Taiwan set, but labeled as having come from Germany. So, is Matrix a known German brand? Monte? Anyone?

My F80 has no COO anywhere on it? :headscrat And by looking at a few threads most other members F80s are the same way as mine...only a few GJ members have the older "first run" F80s that actually say "Made in USA". :thumbup:

never heard of Matrix hand tools . Here is a Matrix electric tool company from germany: www.matrix-direct.net . Since the seller is from Russia and the packaging of the tools he offer has russian inscription i guess "Matrix" is a russian brand.

Because someone hopes the set will sell better. For example you could put it on ebay.com and someone see "Germany" and buy it. Without the "Germany" no one would probably buy it and just think : "Oh another of those cheap imports". Same if you sell it within the EU or Russia. And who will check it if it is true ("Germany") if you buy the set at a russian store somewhere ??

It's required for some items imported into the USA, but it's by no means a universal requirement.

One of the things I noticed driving around Kabul, and looking at merchandise for sale in different places, is that English is the "new" French. A couple hundred years ago, French was considered an International language and was extensively used as a language of diplomacy. It was also used in product labeling to add sophistication to a product and it was taught in all the better schools.

Now, it appears that English fills that same role. Most European kids, as well as Afghans (The lucky few who get any education), get English at a young age. There seems to be English everywhere you look and it isn't aimed at English speakers... So, seeing English on packaging isn't really all that meaningful.

Banner and Billboard in Kabul. No, the US and UK folks there are not buying storm doors or insurance locally... You never know about those Aussies though.
