when you spend all your money on tools then you find an amazing deal on more tools but your broke I did that today. Decided to stop by the local flea market and found a guy selling a mint Rigid 18" pipe wrench made in USA for $15! The chinese version they sell in stores goes for $40

I'm tapped until the middle of the week. This week has been rough for me with car repairs so yeah I have about $12 in my debit account

I'm always going to estate and garage sales and don't seem to find the great deals. Went to 3 just today.
- First one had a few hand tools and such, but none that I really needed.
- Second place was a upper-middle class very nice house. some very nice power tools that were near-new, with prices to match. Again, nothing that I really needed. I did notice a set of left-handed golf clubs (I play golf lefty), but I picked up one of the irons - it's a ladies set - just my luck.
- Last stop was at a 55+ modular home community. Apparently a widow lived there for at least 20 years, because there wasn't one tool or man-appreciated item in the whole house.......

That happened to me today.I went to an estate sale and it was 50 % off everything.So I over spent and I'm left with about $35.00 cash for the week. My girlfriend calls and says the estate sale company she works for is extending one of their sales tomorrow and they found a pile of tools that's getting put out for next to nothing.Do I spend my gas / lunch money ? Or just stay home.

Here's a tip for you. If you can control debt this works awesome. If not, stay away.

Any and all of my purchases end up on my Discover card. I get cashback on the card (sometimes as high as 10% depending on when and where). That leaves copious amounts of cash reserve in my checking account each month until the Discover bill is paid. Pay the credit card bill each month in full. Essentially I am shifting my expenses from weekly to monthly. By doing that it can help you to smooth out the rising and falling costs of week to week purchases. You will still need to control yourself but essentially it allows you to steal a few bucks from next week to pay for a deal you found this week. The trick is that you can't steal every week.

If you do it right, your credit card company will pay you to use their card. In my case, I use my Discover rewards as cash on Amazon and Discover essentially pays for all my Christmas shopping. It also has an awesome effect on your credit rating.

If I don't have the money (extra cash/mad money/rainy day fund) I don't go. No reason to find deals and not be able to afford them, just pure disappointment in my eyes.

i've been a "pro" wrench for 30 years, my tool buying is pretty much relegated to "good deals".
i really dont HAVE to buy much of anything, when i do it's a single wrench or socket, i'm done with buying sets of stuff i'll probably never use.

i really dont HAVE to buy much of anything, when i do it's a single wrench or socket, i'm done with buying sets of stuff i'll probably never use.

I pretty much have what I need as far as all tools go. If something comes up for the job I'm working on, I'll buy it. I have been spending too much time in the Hot Deals section though. . . . .
