The dog started finding little steel balls on the floor. I finally discovered they were coming from the front door hinge. The doors weigh 300# or more and the hinges are welded on. I lifted the door off the hinge and measured the thrust bearing. The nylon cage was gone, hence the loose balls. They standard metric size bearings, 15mmx28mmx9mm. I found new ones with a steel cage and better weight rating on Amazon. Finally, how do you lift a 300# door? Johnson bar worked great, but I needed help getting it back on the pins.

Toe jacks work. For lighter doors, I use an air bag "wedge" that I can adjust to the pressure I want. For something that heavy I'd use piece of wood and maybe a split shim for adjustment.

That's a great 10 minute 2 man job! (Providing the bearings just slide on)
Conveniently there's only 2 per door. Dropping one of the doors looks like the biggest concern and an extra set of hands would facilitate the use of the Johnson bar safely.

300 lbs for a door? A solid slab of white oak 80"x34"x3" is 220 lbs

If the window takes up half the space and the skins were steel they would be 3/8" thick on each side to weight 300

The Front Door of my home was Custom Fabricated from steel, with a hinged glass insert. Installing or removing the door takes 2 strong men with Levers and a Fulcrum. I give the grease fittings on both hinges a shot of grease once a year.

I’ve lifted off and rehung 8’ solid wood commercial doors with just me, a 1x4 and a Burke bar.
Open door
Set up Burke bar on 1x4 in center of door
Grab the door with both hands and use my foot to manipulate the Burke bar to left the door off its pins.
Shift the door slightly and lower to ground.
Move out of the way.
Reverse the process to rehang the door.
It’s a ***** and I would have welcomed an extra able body.
