How can I determine if my garage door is counterbalanced correctly?

I had a 9x8 19x8 doors installed recently. The smaller door slams closed pretty hard. Is there a test I can do to determine if the springs were installed correctly. Both will hold position at about 4' above the ground. I don't want to call the installer back unnecessarily but I do want them right. Thanks.

The doors should stay in place when you let it go regardless of where it is. If it's slamming to the ground it is out of balance. It should not fly up at any place either maybe slightly up but not really fast.

I would think any good installer would rather have you call them back out for adjustments than not. How long ago is "recently"? You paid for a good job, if your not satisfied call them back. I had issues with my doors when our house was new 2 years ago. The guy was there that afternoon and fixed my problem. For my "troubles " he installed a wireless keypad at no charge, he didn't have to do that. I seen him and his wife out one night a few weeks later eating pizza so I sent a round of refreshments his way.
