Okay, guys- it's been a looong time since I've posted here...

Long story short, my house flooded 4' back in August and we're finally getting to the back end of the repairs. We had a new 16' garage door installed today, but it's not insulated, despite my contractor saying it was going to be. We switched to a cheaper door at the last minute and I forgot to confirm that it was still going to be insulated.

Well... surprise... you get what you pay for! The quality is excellent, but I need to set up some sort of insulation, as the door faces west and it'll be transferring a ton of heat in the evenings.

I've seen several insulation possibilities, but the reviews typically state that the insulation is heavy and will add a lot of weight to the door.

It's a 16' aluminum door with a 6yo Chamberlain belt-drive opener.

Any suggestions on some insulation that won't cause any premature problems? :bounce:

Blue foam sheets.
Cut to size and glue in.
Cheap, light, and effective.
I doubt you will need to re-balance the door.

Back when I used to install overhead doors I remember the insulated doors where just solid panel doors with Styrofoam in them. The extra weight came from the extra metal. I saw a lot of doors that had plane old styrofoam glued on the inside between the styles. like kbs2244 said, that wont add enough weight to require winding the spring.
