Fellow enthusiasts -

I am planning on putting in a 4 post lift in my residential garage. Does anyone know of a good lift and more importantly - how do I get the door to open without the opener hitting my top car??? :wtf:

I know some others have jackshaft openers. Not sure how they work on a 'normal' door (I'm still a noob in garage stuff). Others have the Wayne Dalton iDrive.
If you have a single door (8-9' wide) you can do an off-center opener also.

If you have adequate ceiling height, have your sectional door setup converted to a "high-lift" arrangement. Mine's shown below, with the door horizontal tracks 8" from the ceiling and the opener track 4" from the ceiling; I have 12' height.

I just had the door track and opener raised 12"

Now there's plenty of room to raise the garage door and not hit the
car on the top of the lift.

iDrive is junk, read some reviews before wasting $$$ on one.
Different opinion here -- I installed one when I raised my garage door tracks, torsion bar/springs, and eliminated the overhead opener to gain 4-post lift clearance. My iDrive has functioned fine, and the install was no sweat. Very neat/clean set-up, at a fraction of the cost of a commerical-style side-mount drive.

Here's a good solution if you have vaulted ceilings or can remove the cross braces to clear some space...
