Door opener issues

In the house garage we have a newer opener. Probably put in right before we bought.(2006) Well the dang remotes eat up batteries at a insane rate.
It will work fine for a few days and then work spotty for a few then nothing.
New batteries same deal all over.
I'm at a loss. It works fine with the switch by the man door.
Any reason for this ? At 1st I thought we had a bad remote. Nope does it with both. then I thought bad batteries nope. been through 3 or more all from differant sources x2 (2 remotes, wife had both since my truck is too big
for the house garage)

Ghost ? Alien force field ? Really super bad luck with batteries ?

I'm about ready to pop for a whole new set up. Just dont really have time for that. Winter is coming and need to keep mamma happy:thumbup:

Well don't be too fast on buying everything new. First of all it is IMPOSSIBLE for your actual opener/radio reciever to make the remote batteries fail at a fast rate. While there must be a sound technical reason why your remote batteries die so quickly, you may want to skip the forensics and do as poster 2 suggested, although I would be curious myself as to why the problem exists. A couple of questions for you... Is it a metal building? What distance are you trying to operate the doors from? Is there anything about how you store the remotes when not in use that would cause the buttons to be pressed. Lastly, try removing the batteries until you actually want to operate the door, I know its a PITA but it may give you a clue as to what is going on such as inadvertant depression of the remote buttons and such.

Your 2 remotes were most likely made one behind the other in a bad batch.
Replacement remotes are not all the expensive.
That would be my first try.
Remote batteries should last for years.

Might be a stupid suggestion but have you put a volt meter on the "dead" batteries to verify that they're actually dead?

Sorry if this posts twice... lost my internet briefly.

Good info/questions guys  Thanks! We bought a new Sears on sale
and I will use the old (not that old) Gennie (?)
The old one is in the house garage(wood walls) and winters coming fast, keep mamma happy !
So I still have the issues but it wont be a big deal as its going in my shop
(part metal/part wood)
probably not on my main door(thats getting a LiftMaster wall mount some day).

I'll try and figure this out but its down on my list of priorities.

I have also had problems with Genie remotes. Replaced 4 in 5 years and all gave the symptoms of the battery being shot but new battery and nothing worked so pitched them and got new ones.

By comparison we have a Chamberlain on our machine shed (We park our pickups and SUV there) and it has been there for 9 years and only one remote failure and that was due to being left out in the rain too many times on the 4 wheeler. Chamberlain is a heck of a lot easier to "learn" the extra remotes than the Genie.

The Genie will open the garage door (wood building) at about 200 yards but the Chamberlain has to be within about 60 feet to open the closed door on the all steel machine shed.

Craftsman half installed now. As I was pulling out the Genie I noticed how buddled up the wiring was in front of the signal. Thinking to myself, maybe ?
Then I noticed some oil on the bottom of the door opener and see this big crack. Did not spend too much time looking at the crack. So who knows?
I will be sure everything is set up right on the new one.
Pics coming !

Craftsman up and working, not just right but it works and its pushing 9pm so I'll dig in more later. Full force up and down yet wont open all the way.
Nor is the close going down far enough.
For now Mamma can start her morning w/o defrosting the windows.
