For those of you who have or work with 2-post lifts, there's always the issue of car doors hitting, bumping into, rubbing against, or generally coming into contact with the posts, and possibly getting dented or scratched. What do you guys like to do about it?

I like attaching foam to all of the spots where the door might come into contact with the lift. The thicker, the better.

Photos are of one of the posts on the lift I mostly work on. The grey foam covers an edge on the carrier for the arms, which comes out from the post at a diagonal and can catch the lower edge of most doors. It was part of the packaging for a sunroof. Came with a shorter segment attached at each end, also with that 45 degree cut, allowing them to be folded over to make 90 degree angles and cover the corners of the sunroof frame. I just cut those off, still haven't figured out what to do with them. Then the upper right edge had to be trimmed a bit so as not to wedge itself between the carrier and the post, and the lower right end needed to be notched to fit. The blue foam on the post comes with new wheels, one strip covering the inner rim and one covering the outer rim. Cut a strip in half, spread it open until the foam splits a bit (so it can fit the 90 degree angle of the post better), and both edges will be in contact with the post but the middle will sit at least half an inch away, so there's more cushioning than just the foam itself.

Works great, no worries, I can open front doors even with the lift arms set, lean them against the foam and monkey with the interior or the door panels if I want.

This is why I never throw anything away...
