My 1940 Ford truck project has taken up the last 11 years of my life (off and on)
But I especially like working in my heated garage in the winter. Today I made up the door sill plates. The truck has a fiberglass cab and nothing inside the cab is stock. I added real rubber weatherstrip to flanges that I glassed into the door openings, now I need to trim the custom made kick panels, carpet and door openings with a custom made door sill plate. I started with light gauge steel channel... it's the stuff that is designed to fit into the knockouts of steel stud to stiffen tall walls. It's an inch and a half wide by about half an inch deep. I took the whizz wheel to one leg of the channel just past the radius so that the remaing piece would still have some rigidity and a nice rolled edge to it. Then I pie cut the other leg in the area where I needed the sill to run up the door opening. I split the front at the leg so that I could form the end to match the kick panels and brazed in a little filler piece on the top to finish it off. The photos show the project from the rough steel channel to the finished product. The final pictures show the sills painted in Rustoleum Hammered finish. It's durable and the hammered finish negates the need for metal finishing down to the Nth degree, besides that, it's the right color
