I have a 12'X12'. It works well for me, F250 with 16' trailer is the biggest thing I normally drive though the door.

Stay with the 14x14. I have 12x14 and would definitely go 14x14 next time. I needed two doors for the business at the time or I may even go 16 wide 14 tall.

Have a 14x14 in the plan. It is 3,000. Wondering if smaller would save me much money.

14 wide is nice but I don't see where you need any more than 12 high. Check the Ideal 5 Star commercial doors over at Menards. I just got a price for a 12 wide, 10 high for less than $1000. Made by Clopay, they're a real nice door for the money.

If this is your only door then I would stay with the 14' min. The day will come when something is inside the shop and you'll have the door half blocked and need to get something in or out that will be a squeeze to maneuver and move through the door. What are you doing in this building? The function of the building makes a difference.

12 feet is an interstate lane.
So judge your comfort level from that.

I would go as high as you can with the tracks as vertical as possible for much as possible.
You never know when you may want to get some thing tall in or out.
And those things are often top heavy.
Having the extra height may be handy some day.

You don’t have to open it all the way all the time.
You can hit stop on the opener at any level.
