Door within a door

Hi all,
My buddy's got a nice three car attached garage with the standard 8'x 20" or so sectional garage doors. The problem is he doesn't have a service door, ie, a normal entry door to the garage. Is there a way to build a service door into a sectional garage door? It'll have to have sections like the garage door but when the garage door is closed, it'll have to hinge vertically like a normal door. Anyone ever do something like this?

Thanks,

Does the door have an auto opener? I put a keypad on the front of my garage. Nice to be able to open the door without having to walk in the house or around to the back.

Also I gave my friends the code so if I'm not home and the place is locked up they can grab what they need.

With the structure the way it is, there's no way to put a service door anywhere, unfortunately, hence, this question.

For those of you who have this arrangement at work, can you get me a brand name of the doors? Even though my buddy's doors are sectional, I'd imagine a roll up door has the same challenges.

Yes, the doors have auto openers but the whole point of this is to keep from having to open the big garage door when only 'human' access is needed. Keeps the heat/cool in and bugs/birds, etc, out.

Airport hangars have man doors in the hangar doors but the hangar doors open out if it would make a difference. What if he would put in the old style of door ( I can't think what they are called at the moment) where the top half opens and the bottom half stays closed. A lot of the country homes built in the 60's and 70's had them. Then you could build a frame section in each section of the garage door.

Other than that, why can't a man door be put anywhere else in the building?

Kevin, logistically, this is a three car garage, brick, attached to a brick house with only one wall that a door can be built in to. The ground slopes away drastically at that point and he feels it just isn't cost effective to put a door there.

The link for walk thru garage doors is just the ticket for him. I'll pass it on.
Thanks for all advice!

Overhead door company sells roll up doors with small service entrance doors built in. The roll up door just has a notch cut in the corner for a semi-permanently installed frame and entrance door. I say semi permanent because the frame is on hinges and has pins on the inside so that it can be swung open if you need use of the full garage door width.

We have this set up on our fire station door. It stinks. It is just 3 vertical panels that are hinged on one side and also divided like the rest of the door. The downfall is you have to make sure the door is closed before opening the overhead and there is a 4 inch bottom brace all the way across the big door that you have to step over every time you use the walk door. Also no door knob just a small handle to open the door with. Only way to secure the door is to lock it.
