Double box end ratcheting wrench set?

Hello. I am surprised that there are not more sets available with a ratcheting box end, and a standard box end of the same size on the other end. Seems like I would use them every day if I had such a set. Any suggestions? Pluses for no skips, flex head, and/or reversing.

Depends on your budget... I know Icon, Gearwrench and Snap On sell them.
I'm sure Matco and Mac have their versions too.

If you can wait, Tekton will be releasing their version soon.

Oh snap - those would be perfect - break with the non ratcheting, and flip

If you're looking for a standard length version, most have been discontinued. Matco was the first to offer the proswing version made by Armstrong. Armstrong offered its own version and Cornwell sold them for a while under their blue power brand.. It's my favorite ratcheting wrench in standard length. Sadly, when Armstrong went away so, did the US made versions of those wrenches. Matco's later versions were 90 tooth with a ratcheting spline boxed end from Kabo.

There are lots of double box end ratcheting wrenches like the Icon below, but to me the issue is that they are too long for working in certain areas. I don't see why there aren't more offerings like the Matco Proswings in a long pattern style, not extra long. Just make the same wrench with a little less metal. I suspect there's so many clones of the XL wrenches because its only a few factories making them all and just stamping a different name on them. Here's a shot of various 19mm wrenches for reference.

Not as big a jump as I would have thought for the big-boy set, but I guess the SAE "only" goes to 1" instead of 1-1/4".

Facom offer a standard length ratcheting double box end.

Available in both flat and offset.

To be honest, if you are going down the route of ratcheting wrenches, it makes more sense to me to have double box ends than combination.

You’ve probably got a set of regular combination wrenches already, so why buy yet more open enders that you’re seldom going to use?

Those are kind of cool. Do you have any links? Perhaps something we can buy here in the US.

For $300 they can keep it (Facom). The BluePoint set is not any better coming in at just under $450.
No thanks. Hard pass.
Agreed, a UK site has them for 168 GBP which is about $216 but shipping to USA was nuts on their website. Would have to call them if interested.

In this case, yes. At least personally. For something of this design or similar, for me, it would be something I keep in the car or just something to have available when I can't/don't want to carry 12 wrenches and don't need an open end.

What I want is ratcheting on one end and non ratcheting box on the other. At present I don't have any ratcheting, or flex head, or long throw wrenches. So I am looking to cover all those bases with a single set. Very interested in the tekton mentioned above.

Try this.

I’m not seeing $300.

$140 for a four piece set. $212 for a six piece.

Or just buy the individual sizes you need.

The link Wiz02 posted earlier has the set for $300. That's what I was referencing.

The MisterWorker price is definitely better, although I'm not sure what if any shipping costs there might be.

Not what OP is looking for but I have these and use them all the time. I paid like $15 with Amazon coupon code. They are in my Pull n Save junkyard tool bag. I have not had a problem with them, and have put my 2ft pipe cheater bar on them many times when removing rusty junkyard fasteners. I know they will explode at some point, but after two years I'm sure I've gotten my money's worth. And they feel nice in my grubby paws.

Those look nice. Not that I need any more ratcheting wrenches, but I wish they offered a 10-19 set because I'm never going to use a 6-9. Or for that matter an 11....

But I guess it's the case of sell a bunch of stuff in a set that 90% will never be used in order to amortize the warranty costs of the 10, 12, 17, 19mm

I have a set like these, the original Gearwrench design from decades ago that launched the brand name. I never use them. With the short length and no flex head they're about useless in comparison to the similar length Tekton set I have with the flex head.

Most of them, the ratcheting heads are too darn fat to fit anywhere. That's where the Kabo and rest of the brands all built the same way have the protruding ratcheting end that fits where the others don't. If they don't have the protruding ratcheting end they are more or less worthless for the most part.

My nephew uses the Duratech XL set with the box on one end and the ratcheting box on the other in an Infinity dealership. He loves them. They are a smidge longer than the Gearwrench gearbox ones, and that's ok with him. He had a problem with the 14mm, and they sent him another one after he sent them a video of it skipping. The original sets did not include all the important sizes, but I think they do now.

I have the Gearwrench 4-in-1 reversible 2 piece sets (one set SAE and one set in mm) in my road bag. They are fairly useful, but the heads are bulky and have not always fit where I needed them to fit. They are short like the Duratech set posted above, but other than that they work.

I've got and been using the Gearwrench 859875 for like 5 or 6 years now. The 0 offset box end is amazing. Don't use the ratcheting ends often. They sell an additional 4 piece set that includes like 21, 22, 23, and 24 that I also have making it complete with no skips (except 20mm) It does however look like this got updated and is now called the gearbox set as referenced above.
I paid 100 dollars for the set and 100 dollars for the large 4 additional and have no issues, incredible price.
Not sure paying 200 dollars for the base set makes sense tho, but I guess everything is pricey these days.

Recently I replaced the timing belt, water pump, lower control arms, struts, inner and outer tie rods on my Honda Ridgeline. The bill at a shop for all this work would run upwards of $5000, so I figured I had a tool budget. On one of the you tube videos I watched the guy was using these Icon extra long flex head ratchets. I had a coupon, so I saved a bit. I couldn’t have done the job without them. Their ratcheting is very fine and uses a button, so no need to flip over the ratchet to reverse. Also, the socket has a protruding boss on one side, making sort of a short deep socket. Just the thing for clearing casting of water pump etc. The long length makes breaking rusty bolts much easier and often could be done without using a breaker bar first.

I keep going back to looking at the Kabo (Icon) because of the little protrusion. I guess I can supplement them with non ratcheting double box wrenches.

I have been looking for the exact thing as the op.
I want a complete set of metric.
No sizes skipped.
6 point on the fixed end.
Long pattern.
Not ch-ina.

This excludes the crapsman set out of general skip a size onezees and twozees consideration.
I think I've never actually used a 9mm or 11mm for anything. Yes, the skips offend my OCD but real world the skips are often a smart way to package tools.

I did too. Unfortunately I've found that often the protrusion is a negative because of the clearance reduction, and I have plenty of fastener engagement without it.
But there are certainly times when the extra room to swing afforded by the protrusion is nice to have. This is where I use my Astro ratchet with the Nano sockets. Popping a socket into the wrench, it's about the same profile as the Kabo wrench.

This setup completely eliminated for me the appeal of the Kabo-style wrenches. The Astro nanos cover that about perfectly for me and take up less drawer space.

How similar are the thicknesses in both? I forgot about the nano socket solution

In today's email, from Tekton
Wish these had a reversing switch, but eh. I have the Icon's, the Tone's and the V-series Craftsman (if they count), but I like Tekton stuff and the price for the warranty is impressive.

Anyone here actually own the SO XFRRM705 set?
