Double box zero offset

I'm looking for a set of non ratcheting zero offset double box wrenches. Matco makes the exact set I'm looking for, but I don't want to spend $250 on a set of metric wrenches. Only other brands I can find are ATD and V8 tools, but I'm not sure about the quality of these brands. Any other non truck price, decent quality sets out there?

If not, I will just get the Matco's, but it appears they only make them in metric so I still need an SAE set. Thanks!

Mac and Cornwell make a set. There's multiple threads out there on this topic.

Like these?

I have them for sale in the classifieds for $150 shipped. Since you are in LA they would only be $140 face to face!

Ooh, those are nice, but I want to see what else is out there. I'm not in need of this style of wrench very often so I didn't really want to spend truck brand money.

I've tried searching for Snapon, Cornwell and Mac long zero offsets, and can't find any on the tool company's lousy websites. Could someone who knows where to find them post links, please?

silversix,

Thetoolchest.ca sells a Toptul 6 piece double box 0* offset metric wrench set for $99.99 Canadian Dollars (or $100.89 U.S. Dollars). Here is the link:
LINK.

Thetoolchest.ca sells the Toptul double box 0* offset metric wrenches separately in sizes 12mm x 14mm, 14mm x 17mm, and 17mm x 19mm each for $19.99 CAD (or $20.17 USD). Here is the link: LINK.

Toptul does not manufacture double box zero offset wrenches in standard sizes.

To get the GarageJournal 20% discount from "thetoolchest.ca", you must request it. Please use the following cell phone number to contact Parry Dareed: 604-644-1193. Parry will forward your contact information to his brother who handles the discount request. They provide excellent customer service (I purchased a Toptul metric combination wrench set last year from them) and fast shipping ($10 CAD flat rate shipping to the U.S. and within Canada) from their warehouse in 1 to 2 days.

Another option for Toptul double box zero offset metric wrenches is Wren Hand Tools (I have ordered multiple times from him). Wren Hand Tools is out of Washington. He offers GarageJournal members a 30% discount on all in stock Toptul hand tools. Mike Wren provides excellent service. However, he is slow in terms of processing and shipping orders. Mike Wren works full-time in the financial industry and selling Toptul is his second job. It is recommended to contact him at 509-993-4678 to place an order and call him every few days to check order status. Here is the link to the Toptul website with the item numbers associated with the different sizes of double box zero offset metric wrenches: LINK.

nelstomlinson,

Here is the link to the Snap-on website for the metric double box 0* offset wrenches: LINK.

Here is the link to the Cornwell Tools website for the metric double box 0* offset wrench sets (the last 2 sets): LINK.

I could not find these wrench types on the Mac Tools website.

first two hits are the genius zero offset double box sets in metric ($88) and SAE ($64).

i broke down and ordered the metric set a couple of days ago after seeing pictures posted by others of them - they LOOK very nice. they've been positively reviewed so hopefully they live up to expectations.

ahm

ps if you decide to order, keep in mind tooltopia offers free shipping on orders over $100.

Thats half price you should be all over those:headscrat

Too late, I just payed for them. I've been wanting a set of these for a long time

For those having trouble finding these on the truck brand websites... Snap-On doesn't list them in the "wrenches" section. They're listed under "high performance spline drive". Other companies probably do something similar.

For those of you who own this style of wrench, do you prefer the box end to be offset or centered?

Can anyone here post two pictures of a double box wrench where one has a centered box end and the other an offset box end? I cannot picture it.

Also, can anyone explain why an offset box end is better than a centered one in an automotive repair situation?

Thanks,

Dave

I'm guessing centered means 0 degree offset?

Here are some 0 degree offset and 15 degree offset, both with the little "extension".

Look at these pics (borrowed from Monte)

See how in the first one the box is centered on the beam, and on the second one it is offset from the center?

That is the difference...but I am not sure when one is more beneficial than the other; I'm hoping someone can chime in. I have the Cornwell high performance wrenches, so mine are centered, and I like them a lot!

scottmlew,

Thanks for answering my question.

I too am curious about the above question posed by "scottmlew".

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the centered versus offset box end designs?

Thanks,

Dave

I have to zero degree double box set from Mac. I really like them. I don't bother with regular wrenches the long double boxs are the go to wrenches. The SO ones I've seen are offset 15 degrees which helps in some situations but I think you lose some leverage too.

Is that the offset you were referring to?
