Double Bubble Vapor Barrier

New to the site!

Great information! I am developing specification for a new 30X40 building and have been recieving quotes. I live in southern N.J. The vapor barrier for the roof is coming in right around a $1,000.00. Is this worth it? What are your thought?

This is a plastic vapor barrier. I believe this is very similar to the bubble packaging material? Pioneer offers this as an option. This would be on the roof only!

Just as an example... the quote on my 24X40 with 12' walls to do vapour barrier and dry wall, with complete supply from the contractor, to the "ready to paint" stage was $4500. No way was just the vapour barrier on the ceiling a quarter of that cost quote.

Well the bubble packing stuff provides both a vapor barrier and a little insulation. Sounds very spendy and extremely delicate. I suggest you look into a more conventional and less expensive approach.

I've seen some outrageous claims for the R-value of that bubble-pack stuff, you can probably find some objective information about it online.

It almost sounds like a radiant barrier product. In fact this could very well be it:

It has a bubble packing material like face that you are describing. However, if you're talking about a clear plastic material then this is definitely not it and it's not a radiant barrier product.

Its a radiant barrier. I have it on my shop, and it makes a big difference in conjunction with my ridge vent.

Very easy to install. It's a 6' wide roll, and just drapes over the purlins. Your tin goes directly on top of it, and holds it in place.
