Double Bubble

I'm getting ready to have a 30x50 post and beam shop building erected including concrete, double bubble insulation and two 10x8 overhead doors for the completed cost of $14,350. I plan to heat the building in the winter with an older Empire gas shop heater (50k btu). My concern is the double bubble insulation and how effective it is. Does anyone here have any experience with this product? I do intend on framing out the inside over the next few years but until then will the double bubble keep the heat in?

Thanks

If that double bubble is the reflective foil kind, it needs to have a space behind it to reflect the heat. I used the prodex stuff in my garage, helped a lot but it certainly is not "real" insulation. Cheap and easy to install though.

The bubble-wrap insulation is a pretty poor substitute for real fiberglass or foam. I'm not very familiar with your climate, but if I can trust Wikipedia, it isn't going to be very effective when it is 32 F outside.

Even just two inches of open cell foam (the cheap stuff) will give you about R 6.5, which will be a decent thermal break. This is all assuming that code doesn't have anything to say about minimum R values.

I have double-bubble in a storage shed that has a very low ceiling (about 6' headroom) The shed has a metal roof and is on the west side of my property.

A white metal roof (which is the color) in Houston, TX during a 100+ ambient day can reach temps of 110-115f.

On those days, I can walk into the shed and barely feel any heat radiating from the roof.

Will it / does it provide good insulation if this were to be a "conditioned" environment - no. Does it do an excellent job of reflecting heat - absolutely.

I'm jealous. I don't think I could replace my two car garage for $15,000 where I live.

I bought my building from Mueller in El Reno and it came with the foil and vinyl clad insulation. My shop has yet to fall below 36 degrees in the winter but does get hot in the summer. There is no heating or cooling unless I'm in it. This was the 6 inch think fiberglass. Might be worth calling over there and seeing about getting some from them.

I just recently built a 30x50 myself with double bubble and I will say it is more of a vapor barrier than insulation. It will keep the inside from sweating and dripping but not hold temps that well. I sectioned off a room in my shop and stuffed 2" foam board between the framing and put a ceiling in to heat and cool the room
