Double hung home windows - Blinds

Does anyone know if any of the known brands or box stores offer a Double hung home windows with integrated blinds that are sandwiched between the glass? It's starting to warm up here in Metro Detroit, & I'd prefer to knock it out before summer hits in Michigan.

I have some vertical sliding windows that I'd like to replace, but before I go seeking quotes I'd like to be prepared, if it's even realistically feasible. They're approx 39" wide & overall height comes to about 68" IIRC.

I can install the overall window myself or if the reputation & price are reasonable, I would consider letting the OEM/SubC do the work.

Having a few friends whose between the glass blinds quit working I am not a fan. We use the room darkening cordless blinds.

I don't understand the fascination with double hung windows. When we replaced the windows in our previous house, I found a good deal on single hung windows. My wife was adament that we needed double hung. Our new house has single hung. I don't think we're missing out on anything.

In my last house, the PO spec'ed all Pella with these blinds in all windows (casement crank out style), doors, and skylights.

FWIW Seemed like a good idea for a while but ended up pulling them ALL out as it looked and felt like a prison!

As often as people change decorations and window treatments I think I would want the blinds to be separate from the window.

I like double hung. Opening the top and bottom in the summer does a great job of getting the heat out. The heat wants to rise, not go down through the bottom sash. I can go half the summer without even turning on the air conditioning.

I have yet to connect the vent for my bathroom fan. Cracking the top and bottom sash about an 1/2-1" creates an impressive amount of airflow. Hardly need the fan.

I'm not big on widow treatments -- they work very well for me. You can raise and lower them ... the older style was fixed.

I have never seen them in double hung

I'm not fixated on double hung windows being replaced with double hung, as long as whatever replaces the old windows will fit within the space it has to work with, are legitimately more efficient, contains the feature of the enclosed yet serviceable blinds, & doesn't cost me a good kidney... I need the good one that I have.

I like double hung for the privacy. Top down bottom up blinds and the top window opens without showing the whole world your world. I only ended up with one in the bedroom because they are pricey. They can also be a little finicky for sealing and getting top and bottom closed. But maybe top of the line might be better.

They were very decent and I left them for a while considering the original cost (they were metal and blocked heat as well).

I was a fair distance away from the road (people looking in) & which factored into my decision to remove them. Left them for the next owner as an option to add back in. Nice windows & doors but the skylights sucked.

So far I was only able to request a residential window replacement quote without having a rep coming out. That request is still TBD.

Is it possible to have a residential window service company do a general estimate/quote without the physical interaction, yet, I would provided information of the windows being replaced to the best of my abilities? ...At most, only use the exterior with my provided information of the windows from within?

Or is it a required practice that the rep must show up & do the whole spiel?

Same here. I had Pella casements with blinds between the glass. Within 5 years 25% were either permanently open or closed, or otherwise screwed up. Wasted money.

I also have seen my share of in glass shades that don't look good or don't work well after a few years.

I installed pella double hungs and I would do casements if I had a do over. The double hungs don't seal as well.

Casement is the best as far as airtight sealing.

We have single hung windows. Cleaning the outsides of them is a royal pain in the ***, especially the upstairs ones where falling 15 feet is a real possibility.

Seals in the insulated glass do not last forever. I have three panes to replace this year. I would go with windows that do not have sandwiched blinds between glass. It would a be a lot easier to replace the panes as you need to.

If you're replacing windows you can't just go from double hung to casement or the other way around. A few houses might get away with it and look decent but it can really change the feel. Doesn't fit with the architecture.

the house has an odd placement for windows. By odd placement, I mean, most of the windows are on the back of the house. 20% of the windows are "curbside" & are just vertical DH. The curbside windows are the leakers & allow for a lot noise to draft past. Thankfully none are bay or picture windows or some funky design. lol

Might give wallside another poke. Might not be the cheapest, but they actually honor their warranty without the typical runarounds.

seems like pella is the only one offering something "close" to what I'm after. After a quick estimate, I laughed, they glazed over, I laughed again. That & the lead time to install is November.
