I decided a few months ago to buy the gearwrench double x pliers, so i bought 1 pair of the hose pliers (why are they a pair if they're one unit and not two?). I had to do a power mirror on an 04 grand marquis and fishing the wire down the inside of the door with no access was fun. I tried my long sunex 45 degree pliers but couldn't open the pliers wide enough inside the door to grab the wiring (which came wrapped up so it assumed the shape inside the door). I had one circle a bit bigger than a quarter i could use to fish it down, so i went and got the double x pliers. I gotta say, i'm impressed. Not only did the open up wider than they needed to, i was free to work with my other hand down by the other side of the plug! I don't think i'd buy needlenose in the double x (if they make them) but i'll buy the assortment of the hose pliers for sure. I would almost bet that they could replace long pliers altogether if they came in a wide variety. I was skeptical but i'm glad i bought them.

They are quite handy for stuff like that, also for spring clamps in the back of engine blocks. You won't ever be loosening any bolts with em since they lose a lot of torque via their design.

I have the crescent comfort grip versions

Most of the long pliers I've used are just thick tweezers lol. I like how you get the same jaw width but with less handle width as well.

I've been eyeing the Double X snap ring pliers for awhile but just can't seem to order them. I have the needle nose and they're ok, just used 'em last night actually to replace a parking brake release handle on a '12 Ram

I have both the double x and regular style extra long pliers. I have only had to use the double x a couple of times, but each time they were the only tool that worked. Just those times they paid for themselves. It's great to have the right tool on hand when I need it.

I've been eyeing those, don't know why I haven't picked them up yet. I think I'll grab em next time I see em. I like the Gearwrench branded better than the crescent branded, I think there's more variety. They have some 10" hemostats with the same design that look handy.
