Who makes T & E tools? I've never used any but they look like they have some quality in them.

Those sidchrome punches, i really hate that dark finish on them, makes them look cheap!

Should have been blued like their centre punches.

Picked up some sidchome pin punches the other week for work.. very nice :)

Yes, Sutton are an Australian Company and make products in Australia. (In Bendigo Victoria if my memory serves me right?) They make great quality taps and dies.

After finding out the Finkal punches were still made here I splurged earlier this year. Used them on a stubborn wheel bearing out of my tralier a week or so ago. Not super impressed, the punch ends appear to be hardened to the same level as cheese...

Sutton holesaws no longer appear to be made here, had to buy a couple at work last week, packet said Taiwan. Appears to be across the whole range, I bought a carbide tip one to use at home on some fibre cement a couple of weeks previous, also said Taiwan on the packet.

I`ve not long thrown out an old Mcmillan. Good unit but not worth repairing after 25 years of service.

I know how you feel. Finkal are no where near as good as they use to be. My last set have not lasted well at all.

I am suprised Suttons have managed to hold out and still make their taps and dies here. Cannot be to long before they will have to go off shore.

Had to replace the blade on the 14" portable cold cut saw at work earlier this morning (long story involving a dumbarse apprentice that through more luck than good judgement still has a full compliment of fingers).

Pleasantly surprised to find that the replacement is made here. Blade is called Metal Sonic and manufactured by a company called Dart. Runs true makes nice clean cuts.

Nice lookin chisels! I've got a regular UN of a toolbox, Germany,Swiss,spain, USA, China, Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, Israel,england,a few more i can't remember. No Austrailia though!

Some of their chisels are Marked Proto now. I'd say the clocks ticking for Australian chisels.

Hah! The perfect thread to post this picture I took a while ago. It's a tool that my MIL uses. Among the many Japanese, Swiss, German, French sewing tools she uses, there was this lone Aussie tool. :D

The thing is, Australia has sold most of it's manufacturing to Asia due to the supposed high costs of producing goods within Aus. As a result of doing this, Australia has shot itself in the foot (so to speak) as it is almost impossible to reclaim what has been abandoned.

We don't have the culture for manufacturing. With a few exceptions, all we ever made was ****. There's no room in the world any more for average products made by people getting paid high wages.

The next long weekend and free beer...that's our culture.

Yep, we're screwed. We don't have huge debt like you guys but at least you have some industry and stuff coming out of your space & tech sectors.

Alright, let's make a deal, i bring some fellow german engineers over, we start a joint venture, Aussie raw materials, german engineering and we push the chinese off the market.....:thumbup::rocker:

Our engineers are good too...that's why Bosch has an R&D facility here and pays our engineers a third of what they pay them in Germany! :)

Aussie raw materials, German automation & machine tools (until we get up to speed in that area :)) & Aussie engineers payed to innovate and create great products and solve the worlds problems. Everything will be automated so you don't need high payed, un-skilled labour. :)

Taking investment/venture capital enquiries now... :)

Last week got 60% off at Repco for 1/2" drive Sidchrome socket set and metric OE ratchet spanners. Repco and Sidchrome seem to be parting ways.....Then again Sidchrome aren't what they used to be either.
I collect Siddons / sidchrome where I can and the new stuff is fairly ordinary in finish and fit by comparison to days gone by.
Old school Minimax, King ****, and Sidchrome are the best value Aussie tools when found at garage sales and clearing sales. Even if they are a bit weathered from sitting in a rusty pile.

N.B. Minimax and King **** are not Australian made but they are definitely Australian heritage tools and well worth owning.
