Well the old lady is complaining about the static and dry hair and "headaches" - whatever those are.

Furnace is a high efficiency 90%+ downdraft - return comes from the floor, up and over, through the filter and then through the burner and out.

I don't really have room to put in a bypass humidifier. I was thinking of the powered Aprilaire and hooking it up to hot water, but I don't know.

The only other option I have is to install it in the crawl space?!

Looks to me like you'd be able to get it on the top 90 with a bypass tap below the coil.

mount the unit on the return air duct right across from the word carrier (or there abouts) not so high as to make it hard to service. And like rockhead said cut the bypass duct in below the ac coil.
mounting it in the crawl space is not a option

I would mount the unit as far to the right on the ra duct as possible.
then on the left side i would put a 90 deg el (its probably 6") looking down at the floor and then run straight down to the floor with another 90 at the bottom pointing toward the furnace and tie it in there below the ac coil

I had a powered Aprilaire unit connected to hot water and was quite pleased with its performance. i think you could mount it on the supply trunk on the right.

I did not have a downdraft like you.
