Anyone ever done it? My dealer said I can't because I still owe some on it. I was looking at getting a 722 or something for my house, but he said only upgrades have value.

I was hoping to trade this epiq in and get a smaller box. But it looks like I'm stuck with it

Sounds like your snappy guy doesn't WANT to do it. I have seen it done when one of the guys downgraded from his KRL that he still owed on, and got a KRSC cart and a road chest. All they did was transfer his balance over to the new boxes and didn't charge him any extra. Sounds like someone doesn't wanna do their job.

Maybe it is that you owe more on your box then the new unit costs, So if you traded it in, You would owe more on the smaller box than it is valued at.

Not even close. I only owe I think 2500 left on it. It's an epiq he sells used ones for 10k

I texted another driver in another territory and asked his opinion. He wouldn't tell me one way or another.

So that's what it sounds like to me as well.

he likely feels it doesn't benefit him to make the deal. The numbers don't work for his business model.

I will say I am shocked he can get $10K for a used box. Must be the financing.

My guy would find a way to make it work. Hell he'd probably just sell it for me and put what he got for it against the money owed and use the rest to pay for part or all of the new box. He makes his money on the sale of the new box so he's happy. If he sold you the Epiq, he's already made money off of one toolbox sale to you. You're offering to buy another and he won't help you out?
Maybe your driver's not so good at math?

I've been talking to him all morning. Apparently he has too many to sell at the moment. But if I upgrade he'll give me trade in. But downgrade he won't budge. Wtf lol. I have no use for an 84 epiq right now so :headscrat

That makes more sense. Too many boxes in inventory is for some reason a popular issue with tool truck operators. Lots of money ******* and doesn't want to risk more debt. Though if he sold your 68" epiq for you or helped you sell it, he could get rid of one of his boxes in inventory...to you. The trick is for him never to take possession of your box. He'd probably look at that as losing the sale of an epiq to you though. Not a huge market for Epiqs. I think my guy has sold maybe 3 in the last year. He's sold huge numbers of KRA and KRL though. He has 2 different ones on his truck every time I see him because they sell within days. Hell he just took a cart from me on trade and had it sold on his second stop the next morning!

*edit* just remembered I checked my dealer's facebook page a day or so ago and the most recent post at the time was advertising a 95th anniversary Epiq for sale for one of his customers that he sold to him back in the summer. Guessing this guy is looking to downsize too as I remember him saying the guy was a little surprised at the size of it when it arrived. The techs have to roll their boxes from bay to bay in the shop he works in so I'm guessing that big of a box is a little cumbersome to roll around a half dozen times a day in a semi truck repair shop.

I never traded a box in to my dealer. But I know several people that did trades with him and he always worked well with them on deals. But of corse none of those were ever a deal quite like this. But you could always try to sell it yourself. My driver would always let someone put up a picture with a description and phone number for people trying to sell boxes on his truck. Most the time he was the one who had sold them the box so he could always tell you what shape it was in. He didn't have a problem with helping someone sell a box. Just one less he had to mess with with potential for that seller to buy a new one from him. Worked out for everyone.

So, let me see if I understand this.:headscrat

You paid a hefty premium for a product because of the sellers reputation for outstanding customer service; after faithfully paying for that service for years you're still in hock to them for thousands; now you have a dealer who won't work with you on a down size....claims that fancy box he had you jizzing down both legs over when new has no value now; yet you still want to do business with them.

Am I missing something here?

I didn't pay a hefty premium. I paid far less than half of retail brand new. And yeah he's been my dealer for 10 years he's a great guy. I'm trying to sell it but not many people have that kind of cash laying around. Someone offered me $2500 on here

It has value.. If I upgrade lol. I don't HAVE to do this but I would prefer to. I'm going back to self employed as far as I know and it would help

For what I paid for this I paid less than a buddy pair for a classic 96 from the same guy. That's the reason why I want epiq and of course it's just a bad *** box to begin with lol

That's typically what happens, unfortunately. My dealer (best friend) offers more for boxes than they're worth to get you into a new, bigger box. Don't know what he does for downgrading, but I'll ask him tonight when he drops off some new tools :)

I paid about 4500 for my 84" epiq that was mint and only about a year old. Had the SS powertop and 19 drawers if I remember correctly.

I'm guessing that if you give him your Epiq, even after you get your new box that there would be a difference owed to you? Maybe he doesn't want to hand you over the difference. I talked to my driver and he says very rarely does a used Epiq come to him. I only buy used or repo boxes is why this came up.
