DP220 question

I came a across a 1940's DP220 Drill Press. On a whim, I decided to break it down and rebuild. However, this press came with a Quadrill (4 position turret drill head). This is more for a production environment. Since I want the press for hobby metal work and it adds a vintage look to my garage, I want to remove this head. Does anyone have any idea to remove? Is this merely a interference fit?

There is one at work we don't use any more, but it has been a while since I had it off. i don't remember anything very unusual about removing, but I will try to remember to look for you when I can. Might as well remove the Quadrill anyway, parts are rare for it these days. That is the reason we stopped using it.

I came across one, one time, interesting contraptions. IIRC there was a clamp collar on the left (?) hand side, similar to the DP head clamp bolt. Just loosen that clamp bolt and the assembly should slide off. Some of them I think also bolt up with the depth indicator rod. The DP220 is a super simple so it can't be too crazy, unless someone moded it.

I looked at work for you, and zkling is correct in that the quadrill assembly is clamped on with one clamp bolt. however, I was not in a position to remove the quadrill to see how the drive in the drill press quill is attached. I looked in the repair file, but that section was not shown. This one is mounted in a Delta drill press. If you remove the Quadrill and lower the quill, you will likely be able to see how the drive piece is attached.

Bought a Delta 17" press the other day, same seller had a 2 headed drill with a Quadradrill on one of the heads. Pretty cool the way they work. I'd keep it, would be very handy when step drilling, put the drills in and just spin the head.

The Quadrill at work has 4 chucks and 1 tapping head, which really makes that one a Quintdrill. After the DP handle is pulled downward for an operation, it is then pushed UPWARD to retract the center drive gear from the unit. While holding this position, the handle is ratcheted to acquire the next desired tool, not necessarily in order. After the proper attachment is selected, a downward pull re-engages the drive gear and the attachment selected starts spinning. The stop rod on the DP is set for the longest tool, and all other attachments have to be custom fit to take advantage of this setting. Otherwise, it is a guessing game to determine the stopping distance for each tool, unless you are through drilling. A guaging stop block could be used individually at the stop rod for each tool, but that is cumbersome at best. I have always custom fit the length of each drill. Once we got a CNC turning center at work, it blew the rather antiquated Quadrill out of the water. However, for a home shop, it could still be a moneymaker. I found this link with a couple of small pics.
