DPDT Switch Wiring Help

I recently purchased a new 110/220vac motor.
I would like to wire in a simple DPDT toggle switch ON-OFF-ON to be used on the low voltage side 110vac.
I sure could use some help wiring this switch to the leads coming out of the motor.
Is it even possible with a 6 pole DPDT switch?
I would like to be able to run the motor "forward" most of the time, once and awhile it might need to run in reverse.
I've attached a pic of the wiring diagram on the motor.
Thanks,
Jeff in Hagerstown

You can't do it with one switch. You'll need the DPDT for just the pole connections and one single pole for the hot to the motor for On/Off.

If you want me to draw the schematic for what I just said, let me know.

I would wire it with a drum switch.

Apologies for omitting wire labels for "off". They are the same as the other two cases.

A drum switch is an option. However, I kind of wanted to retain the originality of the machine.
While it originally was only on and off I was hoping that since the new motor had the capabilities of reversing I would try to do that with a toggle switch.
I attached a pic of what the original machine's switch looked like from an ad.
Thanks,
Jeff

Running it backwards won't help you fix your mistakes. A shaper is a one way machine.

You know guys...
You're probably correct about running it backwards.
Sometimes I "complicate" things that aren't.... LOL....

If he uses a 3 or 4 pole, center off switch, he can do it with one switch. Use 2 poles to reverse the motor, as you suggest and use the 3rd pole as a non reversing on-off-on switch. He is running on 12O so he only has to break one side of the line with a polarized plug but while I was at it I would get a 4 pole switch and break both sides of the line to be safe and to be able to run on 240 if he ever wants to.

It should be pretty simple sorry tried to use paint.... couldn't draw for stuffing...

You motor says to reverse just switch Red and Black....

DPDT center off and one of those connector block maybe...

L1 --> P1 always

L2 --> connects to White and Yellow and run a wire to one of the center pin at the DPDT.

T1 --> Blue... nothing change

P2 --> to orange and Run another wire to the other center pin of DPDT.

Between these two point it's like and X.
Black wire goes to one end of the DPDT... bridge it "diagonally" to the opposite end...
Red wire goes to one end of the DPDT bridge it diagonally to the other opposite end. Like an X.

This way when your switch is on center, it is off, when the switch is say up.... it P2 will connect to black, L2 will be connect to black. When the switch is down... P2 will connect to red, and L2 will connect to black.

That is the logic of it sorry you'll have to suffer from my horrible drawing if I have to do it by hand.

Maybe have some one review it I would still have a different on off switch for the Hot wire.... motor won't run when center off. but not sure about having live electricity floating around.

you are right ..... 3PDT or 4PDT if original looks of one switch is desired.... the extra two pole is to turn off the electricity L1 L2...

Except for reversing in the middle of a stroke, it doesn't matter what direction the motor runs on a shaper like that.

The head moves the same either way....

What is the purpose?

Jeff even though you've gotten good advice here I just emailed you the schematic we discussed. If you want to go to a single multipole switch and need that drawn up let me know.

It make a big difference which way you turn the bull gear. During the cutting stroke you want the drive pin going over the top to give a slow cut and as it returns the drive pin is down near the pivot pin giving a fast return.

Just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone for all the advice and help.
I've decided to keep it simple for now.
I installed a Square D ON - OFF type switch.
I'll post pics as soon as the shaper is complete.
Thanks again..
Jeff
