Anyone use a DR. INFRARED HEATER DR-988 heater? I live in Texas and am looking for an electric heater and this one seems to have gotten good reviews for it's size...

I bought one and think it works well . Dont know how it will reflect on the power bill but i only use it a couple hours a few nights a week .

Overall my shop is 800sf and it will heat it to 60 from 35 in about half an hour to 45 min.

I have been running one of them for a few weeks now here in NC, it is a great little heater, only $115 shipped on Amazon. Pumps out a lot of heat for my 400 sq. ft. garage!

I just bought one off of Amazon and it should be here in time to install this weekend. Last weekend was in the teens and my small propane heater and two 1500 watt space heaters just couldn't get the job done in my 450 sqft garage.

Ok, so I got the heater on Friday and on Saturday installed the breaker and wiring for it in the garage. I have a surface mount breaker box in the garage so the wiring was quite simple. The plug on the heater is the one typically used for a 20amp 240volt device so make sure you get the right outlet.

It was only in the 20's here on Saturday. My garage is about 500 square feet with 9 foot ceilings. As others have stated, the air that comes out is not real hot. I used my remote temperature gauge on it and it showed a steady 220 degrees of warm air coming out. The the metal box itself barely gets warm so no fear of burning yourself on it. I could even put my hand on the grill with out fear of getting burned. The fan pushes a lot of air and is about as loud as a table fan. The air felt about the same as what comes out of a floor vent in your house, but with more volume. I used my portable propane heater along with the electric heater to bring the garage temperature up to 55 degrees, which was comfortable. Took about 30 minutes. Once there I found the thermostat on the heater to be quite good at maintaining the temperature. It would cycle on and off about every 15 minutes. For $120 I am quite happy with the heater as I can now work out in my garage in the winter!

I want to install one of these in my new three car garage to simply take the temp up to 40 when it is cold in SE Indiana. What size wire do I need to run for the plug? the electric guy ask me what size wire he should run to fit the unit? He mentioned #6 or #8. I tried to find the size needs from a couple of sources but could not. What size wire are you using?

I bought one about a month ago. I live in upstate NY. It works good as long as the temps don't get to low. My shop is 27x30 with 8 foot cieling. Sunday it was down to 25 in the shop I turned in on at 9:00 in the morning it it took all the way till 12:00 before the garage hit 40.
If its 40 to start with it will bring it up to 60 in about an hour.
Not good for a quick heat heater if your starting with a temp below 40.
Its good as an auxiliary heater.

Well, it's only a 19000 btu heater. Your space requires quite a bit more than that. I wouldn't fault the heater because it's too small for the application.
