Hi there!
The previous owner of my house built my shop in 2004 if the writing in the concrete is to be believed. I'm not sure who floated that floor, but I hope that was their first time, since it's not a good job.
The floor isn't flat, so water tends to pond in places. It's not bad in normal use but with the building completely empty it's easy to see the "waves" in the floor along the wall and along the saw joints.
The previous owner had a drain installed in the floor, and I guess they tried to get the floor to slope to it, but they weren't successful.
That drain is clogged. Not only can I not squeegee water out of the shop if I wash the floor, I can't even get it to go down the drain.
I don't know where it goes. i can't find anywhere where it might surface outside, which is probably why it is clogged. I sincerely hope it is not tied to the house's septic system, but that could possibly be the case. There was a urinal in the shop before I bought the house, and it was tied into the lateral lines (but not the septic tank). I've removed the urinal and capped that drain line. I'm hoping the previous owner didn't hook them together.
Before I call a plumber, does anyone have any ideas on how to figure out where this drain goes? It's about 20 feet from the back wall of the shop, and about that same distance from a side wall. There's a 6" or so PVC pipe that forms the drain base, and a 1" or so (not sure, guessing) PVC pipe that extends partly into the drain horizontally that leads to somewhere.
I ran my house plumbing snake in it but I didn't hit anything. I'm guessing it goes outside and is just clogged up with dirt/grass but I don't know and haven't found anything obvious yet.
I'm of two minds on this. Part of me hates having a drain in the floor and I want to just dump a bag of concrete in it and be done with it. That makes washing the floor hard. The other part of me says that if I have something I want it to work.
I'll post pics when I get a chance, probably later tonight.
Thoughts?
