I was just wondering, since I'm tiling around the outside the foundation (including a second level on one side) with 4" socked drain tile, will there be any real advantage to running tile around the inside too? I mean, once the initial water drains from the sand inside of the foundation, will it be useful after that?

I know of people that do it that way and never have they ever had water problems in the buildings they built SOme may say its overkill but its better to do it now and then wish you had done it later.

I would do the inside anyways. Grade levels change over time, my in laws had 6 inches of water in their crawl space, man was it a pain to put the drain in.

Cutting a trench in the basement floor all around at the base of the floor so they can run tile to the sump is a popular way to solve wet basements around here.
I am with rodnok on this one. Better to be safe than sorry. Do it while it is easy.

The main reason I asked was that I'm pretty much building up from ground level and adding a little under 4' of fill around it. But just to be safe, I broke down and got an extra roll of tile today to do it right.

I did that a few years back. Alot of work, but we have a nice basement now. Sump runs about every 1.5 minutes when its really wet.

Luckily, where I'm putting this garage, it's ~35' from the nearest ditch bank, and will give me about 4' of slope, so this one will gravity drain.

I was just thinking though, I don't think its fair to compare a basement floor with a 42" block garage foundation. One has the slab just slightly above the footings and way under grade, and the other is almost 42" higher.
