I have a new to me 12 gallon Craftsman oilless. There is alot of water in there, so after opening up the wingnut and only a smidgen of sludge got on my hands, I'm wondering does the tank need to be pressurized to drain the water?

I found the online manual and it is oilless and the parts diagram makes no mention of an air filter. So all I need to do to it is replace the flaky tank gauge and drain the water.

My Hitachi Pump I use daily for Finish work I drain daily. At the end of the day it gets set outside and the drains opened full of air. Having the Air rushing out of the drain hole helps clear debris and sludge.

This is my Hitachi that has been in service for many years now. I think the older ones are better like this EC-12

My larger Craftsman shop Pump I use for Mechanic work gets drained 2 times a month or so. Set it outside, crack the Valve and slowly rock it back and forth rolling the water to the drain. I use a Drier on this one though so it doesn't contaminate my Tools as much. Just because you run a drier doesn't mean you don't need to drain the tank though. The more water in the Tank the faster your Tank rusts from the inside out.
