GF Members,

I need your help finding a source for T-Handle Draw Latches in Stainless. I am looking for one like this unit from McMaster. I'm sure there is a source that has these in various size, with various tension...etc. It also has to have a 90deg mounting plate for the T-Handle. I'm not exactly sure what size I'd need but want to be able to buy several and use the best fit. However, I can only find this one or the ones I find are just an old CJ jeep hood.

I am very limited on space so something that has more than 2”-2.5” of throw in a handle won’t work. I need something that pulls straight up like this or the rubber ones that stretch up and lock in a cradle.

How often will you be opening and closing the latch?

Many years ago I saw one of the more clever machinists at the research institute where I started my career use a worm-drive hose clamp as a latch between two pieces. He took a long clamp, cut it, and mounted either end to the two halves. Then the drive and free end could be mated and screwed down to hold the two pieces together.

I liked the idea so much I've done it a number of times over the years. Probably old hat to many on here, but I don't see it done often in my travels.

If you're into the latch infrequently, it gives lots of options for stainless and is almost by necessity mounted at 90º to the latch.

There is a forum similar to this one, called the "G503 Military Vehicle Forum" which might be able to suggest a source.

As I typed that, I recalled a place, in Memphis, which deals in military vehicles called "Memphis Equipment" which could have those latches.

I’m now leaning towards some of southco’s offerings. The rubber t-handles are staring to seem like a good idea. Plus they have several others that might work in the space I have
