Bit lost on the idea of installing draw slides??

Not sure how to attach in the context of constructing a multiple draw metal tool box?

Can you attach to the internal structural frame (square bar)?? or can you mount onto the external sheet metal?
What are the steps involved?

Can anyone maybe post on how they have implemented their slide systems when constructing their tool boxes??

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
The plans I have come up with for the box I am hopefully going to find time to start building in the next 12 months or so have a top hat section riveted to the outer skin with the slides affixing to nutserts or root nuts that have been installed into the top hat section. My plan is to build a box to the size and layout I want from Aluminium sheet only, no frame (but this was more for the challenge of it than anything else). If you are making a tube frame from steel section you could put some smaller section tube in the right places and use nutserts (make sure you arent putting the nutsert through the seam in the tube). Alternatively you could put some angle in the right places and bolt the slides on before you clad the outer (replacing a slide becomes problematic later with this though).

Theres also a great thread on here that was done a couple of years ago that depicts exactly what you wish to do..
EDIT: Heres the thread, really nice end product

Hope that is some help

First off...Welcome to Garage Journal. If you would, could you put your state into your profile? No need for a city, but a state does help to answer questions from time to time, or even helps us ask questions aimed your direction. Thanks.

You can fasten directly to the sheet metal, but you will need to spot weld the slides to it. You can pop some 3/16" holes in and mig weld it, then finish off the metal. Or if your design includes a square tube, you could probably screw the rails to the tube (square bar) It would help to see what you have so far if you have made any headway, or are you still in the design stage.

And don't mind the "draw, radio arm saw remarks". One thing we are good at is busting someone's balls when they don't speak like us. It's all in good fun, and we have all been on the receiving end a time or two, or at least I have.

Thanks for the responses,

Yeah i am still in the design stage.

Hoping to design one that would include a top hat section and two sections below, one being a sliding draw section and one being a shelf section. Designed to fit on the back of A truck, Quadbike and Side by side.

Not sure if to use Aluminium Cheka plate for the outsides or just use some thicker Aluminium sheet metal?

What is involved with a creating water tight tool box?

In This image (link below) i can see the material used to attach the slides, wondering what this is?

Bluntly, based on the questions you asked I think you are going to have a very rough time building a box that you find satisfactory. If you insist on doing it, study the design of successful, mass produced boxes that fit your requirements. Then base your design off of those.

Fair point, However this is a Australian Higher School Certificate Design and Technology Project which is based of a genuine need. The Genuine need in which i base my project off is The Organised storage of WH&S and Emergency equipment for farmers. Yes i am basing my design of sucsessesfull existing products, however there must be a degree of difference or uniqueness in my design which solves the need.

There must be some sort of product built, that includes prototyping may be able to do that but i would prefer to construct a product.
