Drawer for my workbench?

I am building a small workbench for my garage. I'd like to install a drawer under the bench top to keep supplies in it. Where could I get a drawer made to be installed on a workbench? Ideal width would be like 36".

Build it yourself, out of wood or metal. Local sheet metal shop. Local small time, works out of their garage fabricator.

I don't have a photo of my shop drawers, but they use drawer slides like this:

Our pantry is similar. Just make a shallow plywood box and suspend something to fasten the slides to. Not hard.

a 36" wide drawer would need to be pretty stout and have some pretty heavy duty slides.

I found a cheapo toolbox on CL and cut the lid off and mounted it in my bench when I built it.

Put a pair of slides on each end ought to be strong enough, 1/2" ply and something 2x for the back and sides and it would be sound.

I made a couple at work out of 1/2 plywood. I used drawer guides from an RV. Works well. I did add a 1/4 brace across the bottom of the drawer though so it wouldnt sag.

Grainger sells single metal drawers for going under workbenches, and they can also have a padlock tossed on them if need be. IIRC, they also have a sliding small shelf in them.

Look here and look at the one for $132 that is about a third of the way down the page and is gray. That is what I bought for the benches at work http://www.grainger.com/search?searchQuery=bench+drawer But they have different ones.

Also keep in mind that a wide 36" drawer will sometimes bind upon opening, even with roller glides, if there is not sufficient depth to the drawer. You may wish to consider two 18" wide drawer units. Example: my computer desk has a roll out keyboard table 33" x 14" deep and it binds every time I use it.

Habitat for Humanity/Restore has a section for used drawers and they'll also have some used drawer slides.

Cheap and workable.

Here are the drawers I built for my work bench (didn't build the bench...it's 100 years old). Cheap & easy to do & if you're in the SoCal area I would be glad to help you.
