Drawer liner alternative

Since it comes up on here often I figured I'd post a easy cheap alternative. I'm replacing the liners in my work box since there about 6 years old and the matco 4s liners are so crappy it's insane. Mine have gotten wrinkled scrunched up and swollen from solvents or oils and such. I went to Home Depot tonite and got a 6x8 outdoor gray carpet rug and a new yard stick. Sat down and cut out the liners I should have enough to do my whole box except the large top drawer. You can go to Home Depot and get these rugs for $17. It's a cheap easy alternative that lasts and can easily be cleaned by vacuuming it out or shaking it out and they don't stick to drawers or tools. Sorry for the rant but thought I'd post it to help out.

I just use black vinyl floor runner that has lines on it and is indestructible; you can purchase it by the foot. It will last forever and you can clean it with de-greaser.

I used the gray indoor outdoor carpet too , cheap and easy and I can oil it downbecause its olifin or nylon and oil and grease resistant...the yoga mats rubber will deteriorate with oil and grease...I spray my carpet down with Starrett M1 and have NO issues...

Ya I think it'll work out pretty well and it was cheap enough. I did my matco cart a couple months ago with the 2 dollar door mats that have rubber sprayed on the back very thin and stiff it's work great so far

I use the black runner with the grooves on it. They sell it at HD in a roll for around $12 and it works great! Now if I can just get it cut straight... :willy_nil

Carpet's way to thick. Sometimes tools need to be stacked and an extra 1/8" can mean the drawer won't close.

SO's KRL liner is the best. It's sticky, oil resistent, very thin and almost indestructable. Just need to find the same liner from another source???

I've looked I do like the so liners but way to pricey luckily the matco 4s drawers aren't super skinny there a mid depth should be just fine

I've found a carpenter's square invaluable for cutting sheet goods like drawer liners. You can get the corners square by using it as a guide for the utility knife.

Costco sold huge rools of the rubber shelf and drawer liner. It is tough and holds up well. It is a little thick and things tend to stick to it out here in the heat of SO California. The rools were $14 for a huge roll and the tool stores sell it but at 5 times the price that Costco sold it for. I have not seen it in a long time. I have several extra rolls I use for things.
I gues if you got hard up you could start buying up old platex open bottom girdles and cut them to fit. They should work well LOL You can even use the garters for bungie cords. LOL

Check and see if you have a local resturant or grocery supply store local. As in the store that sells display items to the grocery stores and resturants. My local one sells drawer liner in 24" x 65' rolls for $20. It comes in black, green or red (my fav).

The grocery stores use it behind their fruits and veggies.

It looks like little rubber dots laid out in a grid. It is think enough to add a cushion, but not too thick to take up valuable space. "Sticky" enough to prevent the tools from sliding around. The open spaces are nice to let chips fall though, and then you can pull out the liner and blow the drawer out. Additionally the grid layout is nice as a cutting guide to keep things square, otherwise my liners would be all sorts of shapes. :eyecrazy:

If someone can afford a big box I'm sure they can afford the liner for it.
It's amazing how people think these days.

You would think. However I have met some girls / women that purchase a really expensive purse and then have no money left to put inside.

Just me, but i'd rather be the mechanic with snap on tools in a harborfreight box than the guy with harborfreight tools in a snap on box. To each their own I suppose.

I used a few treadmill belts (machine you run on). Princess Auto had them for sale many years ago in the surplus area, I cut them to fit the drawers. They have a rubber side and a fabric side.
