Drawer Slide Lubrication

Picked up an old Master Mechanic tool box this past weekend. Needs a little TLC. A couple of the bottom drawers are a little sticky. Just wondering what you guys would recommend to put on the slides.

I just talked to MAC on the phone today about my newly aquired

toolboxes and I asked them that same question. The tech told me just to put white lithium grease on them.

white lithium grease is God's gift to us for anything that doesn't move and is suppose to.

duck tape applies to anything that does move and isn't suppose to.

White lithium grease is just one of many great things I've learned of from this site. Great stuff!

Take the drawers out first and give them a good cleaning with steel wool on the slides, then lubricate with white lithium grease and they should be good for another 20 years. If you don't clean them first,then the grime, sand, etc. on them will just keep them bound up no matter what else you do.

Spray silicone is not a bad alternative to white grease also.

what about ball bearing slides? i use this box at work with lots of dust that builds up on the box so oil based products are no good to me. silicone spray?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to take it all apart give it a good cleaning, rough it up with some fine grit sandpaper poss 180 and respray it gloss red. The casters are working good and I already bought a roll of drawer liner @ Lowes.

Very thin lube and slicker than snot! I cannot speak to how any lube including silicone will get along in a dust prone environment. I think I would select silicone over anything thick in such an environment though! I thought of an excellent dry lube! graphite powder like you use in locks!

We have had some Du Pont teflon products recalled off our workshop store shelves, we (technicians) don't know why.

Is teflon bad for you or something?

It sure is slippery!
