Building a bathroom vanity this weekend and will need drawer slides. Wanting side mount full extension soft close slides. The total cabinet
depth is 17”.

What size slides do I want to order? They come in 16” and 18”.

Also, where are you guys buying your slides?

Thanks!!

Well if you have 17" of depth 18" won't fit.....

Get the 16".

What style are you buying?

Will the vanity have a face frame (this will reduce your 17" overall depth).

I have been using over or full extension soft close. I like knape and voght, depending on specific model availability I have been buying from Amazon or woodworkerexpress.com.

If it is just a couple of drawers home Depot may be your best bet, as you can get your hands on them and return if you buy the wrong ones.

When I was the maintenance tech for 15 buildings that included 5 banking offices I was asked to replace the slides on a Tellers Coin Drawer. I was told that the slides typically lasted only a few months because of the weight of the coins. I was told they routinely bought their drawer slides from Home Depot.

I went to a wholesale cabinet supply distributor and purchased a set of Premium Quality Ball Bearing Slides. My Supervisor was displeased that I had purchased such expensive slides, they were three times the price of what they normally used. A year later he was pleased that those same slides were just as good as the day they were installed; he gave me credit for reducing the maintenance expense on Coin Drawers.

Got the 2 boxes built with face frames. They are far from perfect but will work. Now to build drawer boxes!2D89BC64-7CDD-4DA9-A9D4-37BE0F051FDC.jpeg
I hate to tell you that in construction nothing is perfect, unless it is real high end, most everything is optically square and plumb. Every major job has at least one really big screwup that I know about. If you count the contractors either blindly following the plans or ignoring them it becomes comical, what really tops it is when the same contractor does both on what appears to be a whim!

16" will measure about 15-3/4"
you would be wise to leave a space at the back side so the drawers don't hit the carcass anyway
remember that you need 1/2" per side clearance for the slides too.

Go to YouTube and do a search on selecting correct drawer slides. I got a real education when I redid my kitchen years back . You have slides for full opening, beyond full opening where the back of the drawer extends beyond the cabinet face for clearing countertop overhangs, and you have recessed openings where it doesn't come out all the way.
I think I got mine through Cabinetparts.com and they had some good tutorials at the time.

I recently bought some slides from both Home Depot and woodcraft. The woodcraft ones were Knapp & Vogt. They functioned better than the HD brand. Another good brand is Accuride. I will not buy the HD ones again, even though they are less expensive.
