Was searching for a thread on best stuff from obssessed garage and was surprised to see very little on Garage Journal?!?!

I saw Matt is on here as https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/members/money2536.108059/ but hasn't been active in years.

Anything I'm missing? His products seem best in class?

The video linked above is the stuff of dreams.
Products are always good, but a few of the things he has are far fetched.

For example - his vice, impractical, floor jack, etc.

But where he hits the mark?

Pressure washers... finding high quality stuff, does it always make sense for you? No. But he fleeces the hell outta stuff.

Like for me, I don't really care for Milwaukee tools. There is nothing wrong with them, its just for the stuff I do (most of it) Dewalt offers more, better stuff, and ultimately you need to find the battery system that works for you... based on your needs.

Milwaukee is geared towards plumbers and electricians, where as Dewalt has some of that stuff but also has more woodworking tools, nailers, etc.

Interesting take, I came to team red from the automotive world (home-gamer). m12 ratchet was fantastic and just as good as a friends snap-on for me. Same with the m12 stubby impacts.

And since I have a problem I now have 5 of them (the ratchets), none of them the fancy new high speed ones....

Since then also came onto M18 and slowly built up a stack of them. I have way too many to count.

I'm sure dewalt has a bunch of better tools, but being on the same battery system wins out for me every time.

While they offer that stuff - their core is based around those 2 trades.

You are 110% correct about same battery system. It's a fairly big decision that requires *some* planning.

I found Dewalt tools less durable than Milwaukee. The 20V Max batteries don't last very long either. Makita seems to have some good stuff. I still use (at home) an 18v impact that is almost 20 years old and still has 2 batteries that work, they don't last as long as they used to, so I can't complain.

Well, that's a beautiful garage, super well-equipped and laid out. Who will be working in there, I wonder? What will be done in that building?

Nobody mentioned any of that. And yet, there it is, all finished. What happens next? Will we ever see the inside of that place again? I doubt it.

Nice job, guys. Now what?

I could see mechanic specialists willing to at least maintain and/or diagnose in that shop. Possibly the owner does the maintaining and/or diagnose, most major repairs would be done elsewhere. They probably have a weekly contract "detailer". "It's good to be the king!" : )

I think his garage, headquarters, etc are showrooms to sell his products and services. I also think he’s just into building “ultimate garages”. He’s probably making a ton of money off YouTube, sponsored content and affiliate marketing. He found a marketing niche that seems to be working well for him.

The average GJ member is not building out $50-100k garage interiors.

Probably no-one. I've seen so many of these shops owned by an OCD neat freak that don't actually use the space or the tools. They park their pristine Porsche in there but pay someone to detail it elsewhere. Each to their own but give me a working shop restoring cars and such any day of the week.

Yup. What a waste of a workplace, it seems to me. It's a dream shop with nobody turning wrenches in it. I agree with you. I've also seen some beautiful shops where tens of thousands have been spent equipping it, but where nothing is used and nobody does any actual work on cars. They could, but they don't.

Jay Leno, on the other hand, has a beautiful shop, where technicians he hires work on his vehicles. That's an ideal situation, if you can pay for such excess. But, too many can pay to create the workspace, but have no skills themselves and can't really keep someone on the payroll to work on their cars.

I just think it's a shame.

2023 called, not exactly cool to call someone (or even a group of people) with a diagnosed medical issue a freak (freaks) anymore.

Absolutely right. I mean when someone else is using your tools more than you are that say a lot.

Some do it for the socials posts. Me .. I would rather no-one know what I have or where I live. As to the "neat freak" thing .. its not a criticism, just an observation. Each to their own. My garage is a complete disaster while I finish the outdoor kitchen so I can build the shop. Happy wife = build whatever shop I like.
