Found pics of one I saw at a shop in Burbank. It was big fucker, some of the chucks had to be 3ft dia. The bed was 12ft or so.

Nice, that's a big old girl for sure. The model 32s are neat and had a number of improvements. Twice the gears for one, fully enclosed and oil bath QCGB, and some even had tool steel ways. Other than modern lathes running a bit faster, there really isn't any better you can do even in 2021. I would not mind owning a (smaller) one of those someday.

Nice refurbish you've done. I worked for Sheldon Lathe in the early 80's as a toolmaker and can appreciate the immense amount of work you put into this. Nice to see someone take the time/effort to bring old iron back into service.

I finally got around to making a video showing the finished machine. So if you want to see how it runs or how noisy it is then enjoy. There are a few clips of it in action doing actual work at the end.

Also, though I knew it was bad, I finally put the scale up to it.

Good god they got their money's worth out of that lathe, that is a lot of wear. Your restoration has turned out really nice though considering and at least you have a complete working machine that can do useful work.

Thanks Ronin. Sorry I missed your post. Feel free to give some anecdotes from your time with Sheldon, I've never talked to anyone that actually built any of these great lathes we have today.
