So what would be your dream lighting for your shop ? cost not being a concern...... What would give you the best overall quality of light ?

I run a micro engine modifications business, and I am required to do extremely fine detail work all day long...My current lighting situations is poor with just standard florescent, a mix of T8 and T12( but no high quality bulbs )..... In the past I functioned quite well with my lighting, but as I am getting older my lighting is no longer adequate.... Now it is time to put the lights into the shop and I want to get the best possible lighting I possibly can..the cost of T5's or LEDS does not bother me much if it is going to provide lighting that will make my day to day working in the shop better.

I have seen some indirect T5HO fixtures that looked really nice..just wondering if they can be used on a 10' ceiling height....I figured with a indirect fixture I would get good overall light coverage, then use task lighting at all my workstations........ But I will admit I know nothing about lighting, i just know I want the best lighting I can get....working with such small detail work eye fatigue is a real issue for me.....before I drop a pile of money on new lighting I want to be sure I am getting what I need....

I would think task lighting would be the most important thing for you - it sounds like your most intense work is on the bench. I like halogens, they run hot as hell, but the light is very "crisp" (some say harsh) and it shows details well.

LEDS just don't do it for me, they just aren't bright enough, I don't care how many of the little bulbs are in the fixture!

Well, I don't doubt for a minute that I haven't seen everything there is in the LED world, but my other problem with them is cost (and yes, i know the OP said cost no object - that's fine for him). What does that little baby you linked run?

if cost were no object i would buy a lifetime supply of every version of incandscent and halogen lamp I think I could ever use, and set up a fund to pay for the electricity and air conditioning.

I am thinking of T5HO and some halogen task lighting.... I am not worried about future costs of the T5's as I can see them becoming much more affordable/common in the near future...right now the cost is higher, but we seen that when the T8's were first introduced, now they are nearly as cheap as the T-12's....I think T5's will become the norm in the next few years, and I would rather be ahead of the curve then behind it....
