Well I killed my second Dremel in 5 years. No surprise considering I beat the living hell out of these things.

I mailed it in to the Dremel repair center and for the second time they repaired it for free. The first one I had repaired wasn't even under warranty. This time around they sent it back UPS 2nd day air and threw in a free abrasive attachment.

From the paperwork it says that it needed a new switch and armature assembly. It was my fault for not letting it cool off after some really heavy use, I just kept using it.

Next time instead of putting some gloves on when the Dremel gets too hot to hold, I'll just let it cool off. :lol_hitti

Probably a cheap fix for them. As long as you keep buying their attachments, they're happy. A handful of some of those bits are worth more than the Dremel itself.

In any event, good info to have. I'm sure I'll fry mine one of these days.

i wonder what they would charge me to fix my bent shaft.......er uh..i probably should have worded that different...

it has a slight wobble to it and you can actually hear that its bent at higher speeds.


i bought a cheapo rotary tool from advanced auto last year..$7 shipped with about 50 atachments. it siezed within the first 3 minutes of use!

Yup, put my address and phone number on the note. Two weeks later I got it in the mail all fixed. They even paid for return shipping. :thumbup:

I had good service with them also. I purchased the variable speed scroll saw. The power switch for lamp was bad out of the box. So much for quality control... :) they had the replacment part to me in a few days no questions asked.

Lucky Devil, had a similiar experience with Dremel, this week. Mine is 20 years old. The shaft stopped spinning. I carefully took it apart and noticed that there is a teflon coupling and bushing (like gears) that turn the shaft. Made a call to Dremel in Racine, Ws. Actually, spoke with an American speaking human being of the female gender. She knew part number and price within seconds. The cost??? $2.25 including US Mail!!!!! In this day of planned obsolesence, remarkable.

We needed a brush cover for one at work, so I called and they said, "sure, no problem." The part was very inexpensive (even for me) and was here in a few days. Cool.
As an aside, they are now owned by Bosch (Rotozip is too).

Send it all 3, and you will look like a devoted customer and they will fix all 3 and return them to you. I have had nothing but good luck with them in the past. Guess that is why they are so well liked.

like I'm trying to pull some kinda scam or something.
I always heard there was a warranty but I figured I needed the
receipt and had to return it to the store. By the time the dremel breaks
I've long since lost the receipt :thumbup: Will do, thanks alot Junkman.
We'll see how it goes :)

I had a Dremel that went bad, and all I had to do was call and give them the model # & Seriel #, and they replaced it and told me to destroy the bad one and throw away. Couldn't bring myself to doing that, so it is still somewhere in the garage. Gave the new one as a gift to my father in law, since he was the one that gave me the original one. Then I bought a cordless for my use, and the wife took it to work with her. She uses the tiny round sanding disks to trim dogs nails......... except for our dogs, which won't let you near their toes!!!!:lol_hitti

Still using a Dremel tool, bought new in 1972. Ball bearsing, not bushings. Very well made.
