That's the perfect tool for people that want pumpkin guts all over the house.

You say that like it's a bad thing...

I once used a sabre saw to carve a pumpkin in a contest. There was  involved.

I say that as someone about to married whose fiance has asked "what kind of mess are you making now?" more than once in the last couple of weeks.

I got one on closeout last year at HD for $5 and use it to trim my dog's nails with the little drum sanders.

First, let me just say that all of you have WAY too much time on your hands. Pumpkin carving? What are you all, 12 years old? :)

Second, it's a PUMPKIN! Who needs a power tool to cut through a big orange melon?

Third... this what I use to carve MY pumpkins: the ultimate pumkin carving tool. :lol_hitti I love the design books these guys carry too!

It's not a question of need. It's a matter of using all resources available to you. :) If you could get the same results with a power tool in less time than by doing it by hand, why wouldn't you?

Bah! REAL men do it by hand! With a sharp rock! Ugh ugh ugh! :badteeth:

Everything is better with more power

True enough, but I the orange stains are a ***** to get off the paint when I try the chain saw! I looks like something from a bad 'B' horror flick! :yikes:

Seriously though, I think the rotary tools may be better for doing the etched/engraved type pumpkin carving where you're not going all the way through, but I prefer the small hand saws, knives & punches for the regular carving. It gives a lot better control.

Im suprised no one here uses a .22

Kinda illegal in my neighborhood and slightly dangerous. Although I did hear of someone once using a small explosive charge to "carve" their pumpkin.
