Well I had originally posted for you to get the 400 XPR, but after reading these reviews I'd say stay away from the new one...

Go for the 395 model. Here is a complete kit with the flex shaft for $74 shipped.

You are going to want cutting disk #456 for cutting. They are 1.5" fiberglass reinforced cutting disks that will cut cleanly through damn near anything. HD and Lowe's both carry a full stock of dremel stuff.

Yeah get the variable speed, corded. Most versitile tool ever. Im with luke on the 1 1/2 fiber disks. They are REALLY expensive compared to the other ones but WAY nicer to use. Youll see them. The cheapesrt way to buy them is the 20 pack at hd for 19.99 In the 5 packs they come out to almost $2 a piece. Great tool. Invest in both aluminum oxide and silicon carding gridning stones so you can grind anything.

A dremel is worth every $

It comes with the flex-shaft and that is the most important accessory. You'll be fine with just that kit.

I have one for a drill, I agree, very handy. It makes it easier if you want to engrave something, or your grinding in an awkward position.

I agree. We just got one of these new ones at the shop. I think it's ****. The older style is nicer.

I have the slightly older 395 kit, without the clamps. It is a great piece of kit. And those fibreglass cutting disks are the only ones to use.

I too have been looking into buying one... I had a craftsman version years ago and burnt it up... I was wondering if those fiberglas reinforced discs you refer to are capable of cutting through VCT floor tiles? I am going to be doing some tilework in my basement and there are alot of curves around pipes, posts, etc that I will be needing to cut the tile around and haven't been real sure what will work the best, as the stuff is pretty impossible to cut curves into with a utility knife/exacto, etc.

I've used mine for a lot of things when I was running my RC car. I would buy bulk nuts and bolts, and then cut them to the right lengths, instead of buying the custom lengths. I've also used it to slot rounded screws, and even to cut the head off of a bolt that was holding a door on our '53 chevy that I couldn't get to turn out on its own... that took awhile and two fiberglass disks.

Oh, and I cut my exhaust off my truck wiht it when I got my flowmaster system. It's the only thing I have like it, I don't have any larger cutting tools, so I make it do things it's not really designed for.

Same thing for me, I use it for every cutting/grinding/cleaning task I have. It is a really handy tool.

I use mine to cut and grind, but also as a nail sander for my dog. He freaks when I try to use the normal nail clippers, but doesn't mind it too much when I use the dremel on low speed with a low grit sander on the end. Sounds crazy but I can get a really good cut on his nails without making him bleed.

I think the craftsman version is just a rebagged dremel... it looks identical, but I cant prove anything.

The fiberglass wheels are only like 1.5 inches in diameter, so you cant get a perfectly verticle cut on something large like that. I know they make some sort of tile/grout bit, kinda like a mini router bit.
