I have wanted one of these for years since learning about them here but never could justify the expense until last weekend. I won a local auction with several drill indexes recently plus I got an Amazon gift card from work that was burning a hole in my pocket. So it arrived Wednesday and I have spent a few mins loading it up.

the good - 5 drawers of storage, solid construction, very low price $45 plus tax
the bad - haven’t found a spot in the shop for it yet and the drawers aren’t full extension slides

Anyone ever replaced the slides? I intend to use this for storage of extras and my larger bits (greater than 1/2”) so I won’t be going into it that often and it may not be worth the expense. I’ll post some pictures tomorrow.

I've wanted one for awhile. The huot are kinda pricey, imo, but they look nice. I plan to build one but size it to go in a regular 26" toolbox stack and it'll have full extension slides.

What brand is the one you won?

It is the Vevor. It was $45.71 but is now selling for $51. Here’s a link

Very heavy and solid, especially considering the price. It was boxed well for shipping and arrrived in great shape despite the box being beat up.

Here’s one of the reasons why I wanted this cabinet. I inherited it and the bits aren’t good plus it doesn’t cover all sizes.

And a couple of pics showing the slides and how far the drawers open

Oh, and I forgot to mention these cabinets come labeled and they have an extra set of blank labels. The labels that are attached peal off easily leaving no residue. I had hoped this was the case as I knew I would be relabeling the drawers. Also, the price varies depending on which cabinet you purchase, even if the only difference is the sticker.

That looks similar to a drill bit case I bought a few years back. Bits aren't the greatest but I like the organization of it.KIMG2453.JPG

We have a couple of those at the local maker space. I don't like them because I have to open the drawer then open the case and many of the replacement drills people have bought are too long for the slot.

They are an extra set of bits for me in another box than the "bits" I use all the time. Fortunately, I have my own space and don't share, willing or unwillingly.

There's a lot of stuff I do differently in the shop at home vs what they do at the makerspace. Stuff there has to be dummy proof which often makes it harder to use or less effective. I fix a lot of the machinery there and it's usually easier to bring it home to fix than to try to use what's there.

I have two of the 3-drawer Vevor drill bit cabinets. Mixed feelings... The price is certainly attractive, and the first cabinet arrived in perfect shape after shipping. The second one was pretty much bashed up, so I requested a replacement. I had to _return_ the damaged one for inspection before they would send a replacement, which took a while. The replacement was also damaged, but not as bad as #2, so I straightened it with pliers. I would not call the 3-drawer units "very heavy and solid". The slides are a bit balky, but they do work. I find that I often forget exactly which slot I have taken a bit from (multiple drill bits per slot), so I put a little thumbtack magnet near the slot, as a reminder. It would be easy to get a drill bit in the wrong slot, versus an index with holes that only fit the correct size bit.

If I take a 15/32 drill from the drawer, I just put it back in the slot labeled 15/32. 🤷‍♂️

The slides on mine own pretty well (except for the full length issue) but I get what you are saying about the potential for putting things back in the wrong slot. I intend to use the cabinet to store extra new or sharpened bits. An index will be used for everyday.

I have three of those Huot boxes and they are OK. I also like the looks of the blue one and plan to make a simar one.......if I live long enough. The beige one resides under my DP.

Do your Huot boxes have full extension slides? If my Vevor did, I would be sooo pleased with it.
