Drill Bit Jammed in Chuck

I have a forstner bit jammed in the chuck of my 20V DeWalt 1/2" drill.
The drill, with the bit in it was sitting on a stool and I knocked it off onto the concrete floor. It looked like it landed on the tip of the but when I picked it up to check it out the bit didn't look damaged at all and worked fime.
Later, when I went to remove the bit; the chuck acts like it releases the bit OK but I can't remove the bit from the chuck. It doesn't seem to have any play in it all. I can't budge the bit in the chuck.
Anybody have this happen to them? Any ideas on how to get the bit out of the chuck? I'd appreciate any help anybody can give.
Thanks,

Is the bit moving around in the chuck?

I would try vice grips right above the head and tapping lightly with a mallet. If that doesn't work a large hammer and a harder hit will git it out, but you may damage something.

It's the way drill chucks work. When you tighten them the jaws push out to get smaller and clamp on the bit. When you try to loosen the jaws try to move toward the motor to loosen their grip on the bit. This is why it's not a good idea to stick a bit in as far as possible when first putting it in the chuck. Best to always pull the bit out just a little before tightening. When it fell, it probably jammed the bit in further, and now the jaws, with the bit, can't move backwards. Might try tapping behind the head of the forstner while trying to loosen the chuck

If you can tap on the end of the JAWS to drive them back into the chuck while releasing the sleeve you may have some luck. Light taps!

I knew this was a dewalt when I read the thread title. My old 14.4v and 18v XRPs always had problems. Many other owners say the same. I'v even had few problems with my newer 20v brushless. And I don't use it very often. Last time I hosed it down with silicone lube.

Clamp on bit with vise grips and hit trigger and turn opposite or try turning the bit back and forth in quick motions with drill off.... Breaker loose it's probably stuck in the screw head in center of drill jamming it up you will get it.

Re: Drill Bit Jammed in Chuck - SUCCESS!

SUCCESS!
Using suggestions and ideas that several of you made. I got the bit out of the drill chuck.
First, I placed the drill in my vice with the bit facing straight up.
Then I filled the chuck around the bit with Kroil.
After 24 hours or so I repositioned the drill & bit so that the vice was gripping the forstner bit right below it's head and the drill was hanging down.
Then I took a hammer and drift and tapped downward on the end of the chuck.
Couple of firm taps and the drill fell off of the bit. Success! Problem resolved; and better yet, nothing broken, bent, or even scarred.
Best I can figure that when I dropped the drill and the bit landed on it's tip, it drove bit down into the chuck, tightening and jamming the chuck jaws with it.
Thanks to all for your comments. I took portions of several of them to come up with the fix.
This is why I really appreciate this forum!
