I've used one of these General attachments for years.

Nothing special, but works great once you figure it out. I found you want absolute minimum drill stick out past the guide finger. The finger needs to orient the cutting lip vertical when viewed from the end. The finger position needs to be moved for different diameter drills. I grind my drills at about 12 included point angle. I have done over 1000 (yes, thousand) drills on my attachment, 1/8" to 3/4", with no complaints. The principle is exactly the same as the attachment you want.

I've got one like gtermini that was a gift. Never used it but I'd like to. Would it be best to have a pretty fine wheel on there? Yours looks kinda course like mine are.

There are a couple of half decent youtube videos that explain how to use it.

Yeah I'd definitely prefer to use a finer wheel than that for sharpening drills. Usually you don't need to remove much material when sharpening a drill bit, so the finer the better in my opinion.

That's just a stock photo I grabbed. I have a 100 grit wheel that leaves a nice finish.

I rough the point to shape on screwed up drills on the belt grinder before going to the attachment. With the attachment, I advance the drill a small amount (~.025) then make 10 back and forth passes, flip to the other face and repeat. Larger drills, I cool in water between the passes.

How do you dress the grinding wheel when you're engaging the side of the wheel with the work?

Bought one years ago and never have used it. Learned to sharpen by hand and with a drill angle gauge, way faster and nicer in my opinion.
